Default Installing Oil Cooler on C6 - Drain All Oil?

Hey all,
I'm installing an oil cooler on my base ls3 car this weekend and I have oil in the car that only has about 200 miles on it that I don't really want to waste.

I think I'll be fine just removing the filter to drain whatever is in the block and above the pan but I just wanted to see if anyone has actually done it this way.

Thanks

why do you think you need to drain it?

Just from notes I've read in the past. If it is a none issue that works for me.

The only thing you do do is add oil to the cooler, if possible, while installing. You should also check the oil level after the initial start up.

If anything it might leak a little around the filter housing were the adapter block attaches but, yes you will have to add oil once you start it up and fill the lines and cooler.

Great thanks guys. I didn't know how much would come out once I pulled the blocker plate off and was just thinking too much into it.

If your are using the stock hard lines. you may find it easier if you loosen the motor mount and jack the engine up a bit. put a wood block between the jack and the pan to spread the load. when you start up if you hold the throttle to the floor it won't fire so you can crank abit to fill the cooler and lines

So I don't have to mess with the cradle to do that? I was planning to wrestle it into place so anything to make it easier.

That is a good tip about priming the lines I'll definitely do it thank you.

Holding the pedal to the floor puts it into "clear flood mode". It can still fire off. Pull fuel pump fuse, relay, and/or kill the spark. There is two big plugs on the coil packs.

You can un-bolt the bottom nut on the motor mount.

Thanks for the additional info. I'll pull the fuel pump relay for sure. Plenty of experience with it from my 05 so it will be easy to find.
