Is Anyone Tracking Their C7 Corvette?
If so, what kind of mods and safety equipment are you running?

I'm an experienced HPDE driver (but not in a Corvette) and I'm interested in some weekend
track events with my Z51 C7.

Some things that come to mind are, harnesses & harness bar, R-Comp Tires & sizes, wheels,
brakes & pads, etc.

Would appreciate hearing what you guys are using.

I probably should have clarified, this would not be for full race track prepared cars,
but for weekend HPDE events.

The C7 Z51 looks very capable in stock form. If I had one I'd get some spare wheels with a sticky street tire, a harness bar and harnesses, and some upgraded pads while ensuring there is good cooling to the front rotors... that's it.

A buddy tracks his - stock with the exception of aftermarket brake pads and fluid.

I have heard again and again that Phoenix Performance is the place to prepare any car for track use and they are the real Corvette race shop. Joe and his crew have been very helpful to me and my fellow racers. I suggest a call to Joe before you do anything to your car.

The preferred setup for a C5 is four 18x10.5" C5 Z06 rear wheels. This is actually what MTI was using on their black C7 for awhile. Toyo R888s are a great sticky street tire. I'd get 295s square.

Unlike its predecessors the C7 seats are fine. At some point you may want to add a harness & bar but not necessary for starting out. I am not sure who makes a bar for the C7 but there are likely to be choices. The stock tires and wheels are also fine until you are ready to move to R comps, If so an 18" f/r set-up is best. LG carries a Cobalt pad for the stock LS7 brakes - an excellent choice. I would check with Anthony at LG on those (change the brake fluid) and wheels when you are ready.

Depending on the club, upper run group drivers are required to have safety equipment in the car. I've run with PCA, BMW and NASA events and have instructed with all 3. As the driving level increases, the harness belts are almost mandatory so you're not holding on to the steering wheel in the corners.

I've run R888 tires and would not recommend them for the street, particularly in the wet. (I actually prefer the old Toyo RA1's over the R888's)

This season will be my first time out on the track in a Vette. Would love to hear some feedback on brake pad compounds, aftermarket wheel & tire sizes and if anyone knows of harness bars that still maintain the stock 3-point belts.

We have been running our C7 Z51 and have tow hooks, shocks, harness bars and suspension setups available.

We have not ran our car on slicks yet, doing most of the testing on sticky street tires for the time being.

The factory brakes do work better than the prior generation of cars, but they are going to need upgraded if you are going to get serious with this car and run it on slicks. It is still very much a OEM brake setup, and can not take a radical car with a fast driver at the wheel. For those doing HPDE events, switch it out to Motul fluids and rock a set of Cobalt XR1's front and rear and it will do some pretty amazing things on track. Remember to say your a forum member as the Cobalts are on sale right now to forum members!

VetteWorks and Phoenix both have get solutions for tow hooks, and harness bars....both of which we sell.

Hoosier A's or R's...

!8 inch wheels all around.. 10'sup fronts 11's to 13's in rear. But rear spacing is tricky so you need to do some spacin and fittin...

The stock Michelin tires are quite good...
