Well... Low and behold after thinking I'd reached the summit or retirement from diecast collecting, I did a search on to Google and came to find out that GMP made in a very limited number a 1/12 C5-R that Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Pilgrim, and Collins drove in the 2001 Daytona race. Yes, I know they made one in yellow and there are 2,000 of those in circulation, including the one I own but, this is the same model but, it is in Black Chrome and apparently it was specially made by GMP for only the Corvette Racing team members.

I've seen one picture of it, and it is stunning. Any leads or know someone that has one for sale, I'm all ears. This one will be tough to find. Thanks, Tom M.

This guy's website he has them all. Nice photos too.

I have them boxed away... I do have a picture of one of the seven. The Menards C5-R was the first one I acquired back in 2008, and after taking the photo it went right back in the box. You can look in my profile in my albums for the picture. One album is completely dedicated to diecasts, most of the pics are of the 1/18th scale though. I have the 2001 and 2002 C5-R's that won Le Mans and are both autographed by all the driver's, those I'm most proud of.

Honestly, I would love to take all the 1/12 cars out and take a picture of them but, I hate disrupting the integrity of the packaging and fear of possibly damaging one in the process assembling them.

What good are they if you can't look at them and enjoy them?

I do enjoy them...owning them. If I want to look at one, I can always look at pictures online or in my own computer photos.

Thought I'd give this a bump up. Saw one listed not long after I made this thread but, I wasn't about to drop 5 grand for it.I got a " Real" Corvette for half that. The patient search continues...

After 2 and half years my search for the black chrome C5-R has ended. Yesterday one became available on Ebay for sale, after some haggling I purchased it. Serial# 009 out of 36 made. The seller on Ebay is selling for a private collector who wishes to remain anonymous. Apparently the collecter was in tight with certain manufacturers and will have 30 other rare examples listed soon. There is a gold chrome version of the C5-R listed as well, 1 of 1 made as a sample by GMP. Stunning looking as well, that one priced for 3G's though.

As soon as I get home next week, I'll post some pics of this beauty. This one I'll have to put in a display case.

Got home earlier today and after relaxing for a bit, I delved into taking pictures of the black chrome C5-R. Also, I acquired a C6.R custom made some months back and figured I would post pics of that too. The guy took a plain body version Autoart C6.R 1 of 3000 made in 1/18 scale and designed it after the 2008 Le Mans. The guy really did a wonderful job on it with the tampo graphics, really painstaking work, didn't ask why he wanted to sell it but, glad I got it.
