Yes, my avatar photo is of the '64 Coupe that my father and I have been building over the last three years. We're nearly done. It's obviously not correct for a 64, but there were so many things not correct about it anyway that we decided to go ahead and build the car we want it to be, not necessarily the car it's supposed to be!

I actually have seen those builds of yours. I don't recall which thread you started a while back, but after seeing your work I searched the forum for other builds you'd done. You have yet to post anything but stellar models!

I just spent the night looking at all your builds. Your work is stunning. I would like to attempt a similar build project and was wondering where you learned how to do what you do. Are there any books or tips you would recommend? I would like to replicate my 60th anniversary 427 convertible but can not find a kit. It looks like I could buy a ZR1, 2013 Convertible and a Z06 model and combine parts. Is it possible to cut and combine different body panels?

Hi Yetiman,
I learned most of what I know with a little over 30 years worth of mistakes. But, magazines and forums have helped. Model Cars Magazine (which I was featured once on the cover) and Scale Auto are two of the magazines I have been following, and they both have forums online. I have also learned a bit from the 1:1 car forums like this one. I actually just recently restored an `85 Trans Am, and have done work on a couple others in the past. There is a good bit that transfers from the 1:1 world to the model world. I even was Zaino`ing my models for a while. But much is just trial an error, and always taking next steps in building. If you want post progress on the build of your 60th anniversary model here, I can watch along and offer any insights that might be helpful.
And about your project, I know of someone who is building a model of that exact car. They are using the Revell convertible and the Z06 kits to build it. He is doing some cutting of the body to do this obviously. if you have a hobby knife, you can scribe, using the back end of the knife, along any body line and it will eventually cut all the way through and you will be able to remove the panel. On all of my builds, I use this technique to get the door/trunk/headlight gaps convincing without using a wash to add depth.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

AMAZING!
Your models are works of art.
You mention that you use spray cans to paint the body.
I am assuming you use automotive Duplicolor?
Do you use any clear over the top?
Can you describe your polishing technique?
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Silverbird!
I do use Duplicolor sometimes, but I also use PPG , and sometimes use Tamiya or Testors Lacquers when needed. It all depends on what I am building. I always use clear, usually a good bit of it. 5 coats is usually the minimum, but some of my builds have over a dozen coats.
For polishing, I start with 1500 grit sandpaper moving up to 3000 grit. I then rub it out with Meguire`s 105/205 combination. Pretty straight forward, and pretty much just like what I do with my 1:1 cars. There is also a lot to be said for getting the body straight and "flat" before paint though. That really contributes to the sharpness of the finish.
Hope this helps!

Ok guys. I think I finally have the `67 wheels figured out. What a journey this has been! But I now have a process, and I will probably be using these from here on out on my builds. I still need to paint the silver areas. What do you think?

So this was the last piece. I am hoping to get the wheels on, get it polished out, and then you should see some completed pics, hopefully today or tomorrow. And then, off to Ebay I suppose.

Looking pretty good to me, like all your work usually does.

Thanks Sarge.

Ok, so here are a few teaser pics. The weather isnt`t cooperating tonight as it`s overcast and dreary, so it will probably be a couple days until I get some good pics. In the lighting, I am really having trouble capturing it for now.

Congrats on the sale, well worth the price, did the person who owns the real one buy it?

Thanks!
As far as I know, it wasn`t the buyer of the real car that bought this model, unless it was purchased by proxy.

I have another project underway, and will be sharing it with everyone shortly.
