World Street Nationals....
I just got home from the event...
In drag radial, Paul Major never made it down the track and currently sits last in drag radial class...he gets two more shots at qualifying tomorrow...c'mon Paul, you can do it!...7.54 @ 214 mph is leading the class so far...
In Super Pro/Pro a Mustang killed everyone with a 6.26 @ 235 mph...
In heavy street 7.21 @ 207 mph leads...
In Outlaw/10.5 Tim Lynch had the lead with a 6.59 @ 225 but another Mustang got him good with a 6.45 @ 228 mph...
The cars were really moving today in all the classes...there was three wrecks...two totals and one bad one...all three drivers were OK...one went to the hospital for observation...
I usually report on 1/8 mile events but this one is 1/4 mile and these boyz ain't playin'....

I agree...two of the wrecks were caused by motors that let go at 1000' and put oil on their tires...I noticed after the clean up they were very careful about sending cars down those lanes...
Were you there Rick?...we should have hooked up if you were...

of the 3 wrecks we saw before leaving when the weed-whackers-on-'roids made their final runs of the day, 1 involved a Blue, flamed '63 split-window Vette that was heavily-damaged, another was this S-10 truck
(I peeked into the cab, and swore it had no bar or cage, and even had a bench seat), and the 3rd was this radical 1972 Camaro, also badly tweaked on it's 2nd pass:
here I captured it in the staging lanes before it's initial run
Beach Dude, who is out-of-town, on assignment, got 'after' pix of both the '63 Vette, and the '72 Camaro
above, if George Jetson owned a '69 Camaro
on it's first run, this '62 Impala lifted at 200', then ran 7.2x @ 199 +tax to the stripe..... it's owner told me he'd run 6.76, and on it's second pass, I believe it ran 7.0 @ 201 & change
maybe most sinister-looking car at the meet, a Black & Burgundy C6, that looks like it was going 200 MPH in the pits..... shade under awning doesn't do car justice:
note stripe-taker
on this squirrel's 1st run, he drifted against the wall at 200', scraped, never lifted and ran 7.44..... although front clip is glass, doors & 1/4-panels feature OEM mouldings:
car wasn't hurt bad, and made 2nd session later this day
above, Lumina or AeroCoupe just need a big White '3' on the door
I just had to get a picture of this spill-plate

Man I missed you guys yesterday. I got there at about 12:30 as I was waiting for the drizzle to stop at the local burger king. It was very interesting yesterday to see who made it all the way down the track without letting off. I don't think I've ever seen so many passes incompleted. Hope Paul gets to go full throttle today. I'm at work now and Sunday so have fun guys.
Got some video and also the wall scraper run up close.

I agree. Been like that more years than not since 2002!...
That's why I stopped going.Rain or no, just terrible track or prep?!
They got their act together tho in Fla. at the Bradenton U.S.Natl's. (Usually late January)
Same cars for the most part from all over, tho better track and prep as well. JMO

I can tell you the track was VHT'd and scraped to within an inch of it's life before they began...I sat and watched Randy spray both lanes 8 times...I don't know what the issue was but some racers had no problems and posted incredible short times and ET's...go figure...I do know 2 of the 3 wrecks were caused by oil from their own motors getting onto their tires...
Anyone know if there is a live stream of the event like last year?...
I'll tell you what was a bit strange....8 of the first 10 pairs down the track had one racer leave before the tree was even activated...I guess they were nervous but, sheesh...

OK...I just spoke with a buddy working this event...Paul Major must be having problems..he has only gotten down the track once in four tries...he went 8.76 and is in 19th place in the drag radial class...I have my fingers crossed that he gets it figured out by tomorrow and kicks some butt...
At least Paul is in the field...30 cars showed up so everyone is in...same in Super Pro and Outlaw...the only class with a bump is Heavy since 39 cars entered...economy is tough I guess...
In Heavy Street a beautiful Chevelle, red with a black vinyl roof went 7.14 @ 195mph to lead his class...that's moving for a car weighing over 3500 lbs....
In Paul's class a new guy took over the lead with a 7.48 @ 201mph...
I asked a friend who knows what's up if he heard about that pick up truck that Glen mentioned...Glen, you were correct...no roll cage or harness...apparently it is a local guy who begged to be part of the show just to say he was here...his truck is known at the track and runs right at 13.00 to 12.99.....
He paid for and got credentials but no stickers to run the truck....he got some stickers somehow from someone but not through official channels...he snuck in line and got waved up to run...
Last but not least, he put nitrous on his motor and had never used it before...he hit the button at about 800' and immediately crashed...his helmet was not strapped on properly and it flew out the window...
All one can say about this idiot is Darwin needs to make a visit to his house...he lied and cheated to race and it bit him on his first pass..thank goodness for small favors...this is the truck in the first pic above, btw...

Looks like Paul Major is having tranny problems again...from Street legaltv...
"Paul Major has struggled here all weekend after running well in Bradenton just a week before. He is qualified 22nd and had to replace the trans again after taking out the high gear band."
Lastly, that black Monte Carlo pic is debuting Pat Musi's new 900 c.i. motor...yup, 900 cubes...good grief!...

"903 club" I believe was on the valve cover. I asked what that was not really expecting to hear 903 CI.!!!! Apparently these blocks can be purchased at that size.

Thanks for the vid Edgar...the car in the super pro street class that went 6.27 in the final was incredibly impressive...I saw him run a 6.26 and his front tires never touched the ground..he was on the wheelie bars for 1/4 mile...
He went by us at 330' like a rocket ship...there were a lot of 700, 800 and even a 900 cube motor but this guy had a 690 ford with twin turbo's...
