Default Stock 08 MN6 on MT ET DR's Safe?

I’m considering getting some 18x8.5 wheels and putting the MT ET Drag Radials 265/40/18 on them. Car is a stock 08 MN6 Z51.

I've read that the MT ET Streets are a more desirable tire in the 17" size for the stick cars. What are your experiences? Do you guys think I'll be safe with the 18" setup?

Discuss.

Thanks,

Dave

I have the exact same set on I have the stock 18" 5 spoke 18x8.5" on the front with the OEM tires (run Flat) I bought thin spoke 18x9.5" for the rear (take off from an 04) I use MT 305/35x18

They fit PERFECT.. (Mark Lt1S1) as seen them an they are a perfect fit.. I get excellent performance (no spin at the track) and I drive 100 miles back and forth to the track! The car handles fine (I'm careful if I run into rain) But I leave the Mickey Thompson's on all the time..

I will be taking them off after out last race in Nov. But don't worry about fit or how it will handle.. mine is FINE!

Good decesion..

Yes, I was shocked at just how well they sit on those rims as typically a 305 has no place being squeezed onto a 9.5" rim LOL, but it works.

The 265s should be an even better fit on 8.5s as well.

I use Hoosier 275/40/17 on my 2008 C6A. I have 425 RWHP with 416 ft-lb torque and hook up just fine. It's been explained on the Forum before, and I've seen the difference, that if you use a 17 inch tire vs. an 18 inch tire you can pick up a 1/10 in the quarter.

Thanks for the info guys.

I'm not really worried about dropping or gaining a tenth; I just want consistency. My only concern is if the 17" tire setup would be less stressful on the drivetrain and less likey to break something.

Have there been that many more cases of people breaking something with a stick car with the 18" tire over the 17"?

Thanks again,

Dave

I wouldn't go with 305's...it kills your gearing! I am running 305/45/18's. They look great (fill up the wheel well, give a nice 70's rack look to the car). But, with the factory 2.73's in my 08 Z51 A6, I can't cut better than a 1.599 60'. I will be going down to 17's at the start of next season, I think.

I'm running MT 305/35x18" and they are 26.6" same as OEM NOT 28" so they will work.. I'm not a super High HP car.. but I run 12.0x and I can hook on ANY track 99.9% of the time!

Once these 45 series are trash, then I will find the 35 series. Thanks jpee...didn't know they had a 35 series available.
