Saw a reminder on another board so figured I would pass it along to you all.
Remember SA2000 helmets expire 1/1/2012 so if you need a new helmet, get it on you holiday gift list now.

Yeah I knew this, a certain pony tail toting individual reminded me of it at least 11 times throughout 2011 LOL.
Mine is an M2000 and being a bit 'budget minded' I've actually considered not racing at E-town at all in 2012 so that I could save the $100.00 - $150.00. But that's just silly as other tracks often check the label as well (Derek out at the LSx Shootout in Indy checked it) so I guess I'll be buying a new one soon LOL.

if you plan on ever doing more than 1/4 mile I would get an SA since many car organizations are starting to require SA helmets. Of course if you have a motorcycle then the M can be used for both.
just something to keep in mind when looking for a new helmet.

you need to be reminded get a new helmet. although ponytail might be a bit overzealous in his approach he didn't make the rules and if you wreck without proper equipment and he techs you in its his ***. i'd watch out for my *** you aren't. he's by the book period like it or not.
NJ State Police set the rules. Last year they wanted to get rid of all open face helmets for road racing, but gave a 1 year extension because they made the change too late.

I still have the box it came in..and a cloth carrying case...

Check out the testing procedures and the differences of an M vs SA
http://www.smf.org/home
Motorcycles tend to crash differently then a car does, throw in a car with a rollbar or cage and you'll want the SA that is tested for such impacts

I thought 'SA' was simply a fire retardant rating and was otherwise similar to the 'M' rating other than it's better fire resistance?
True true, he's just doin' his job (to the absolute strictest letter of the law LOL).

While slightly off topic, this question comes up very often when shopping for helmets in regard to price

SA helmet may not be street legal since the closed face have a smaller view area.
And most important to me -
SA helmet has roll bar testing for multiple hits M helmet doesn't. This usually makes the SA helmet stronger than a M helmet.

I have seen that on average the 'otherwise similar' SA rated helmets do cost a little more so that all adds up as well.
