Default 295/50/16 on 16 x 8 rim

OK OK OK, before everyone jumps down my throat about saying how dumb it would be, let me plead my case!

I found out that on my C5 Z06 you can run 16 x 8 GM wheels.

Since I just did some modifications to my car putting me around 470whp, I want my tires to match up with my gearing properly. I over-optimistically think I'll be around 130mph.

With the 26 inch tire like the 255/50/16, I'll only smack 128mph in 4th with my gear gearing. I've found out that these numbers dont come out exact a lot of the time as well, so it's more likely 124-125mph. Leading me to wanting a 28 inch tire. Will be easier on driveline and hook better as well.

The 295/50/16 tire is a 28" tire which will mathmatically bring my 4th gear to 138 mph (realistically 134-135) --- which is perfect!

Now I looked at the tire on Jegs.. And under recommended rim width it actually says 8"-10".

I'm actually a much bigger MT fanboy, so I will likely use them.

But has anyone done this? Any rubbing? Any experiencial insight would be fantastic!

Here's a pic of 295/50/16's on a 16x8 rim.

EDIT: Found these pictures. Look really meaty! Kinda like em!

Guy on the thread says that they rub the inner plastic areas if you're lowered. Wonder if that applies to lowered on stock bolts?

Thanks for looking!!

I like the look. From what I understand they will rub. You need to remove the inner fender well or modify it I believe. I have 27" tall MT's and even they rub a tiny bit on hard launches. This thread will give more info:

The fuel and stuff he mentions does bother me.

BTW.. I ended up doing this. But with 28 x 12.50 x 16 Bias Ply tires.

Turned out great!

Side notes:
1) You must remove the inner fender wells. I rubbed a hole in mine.
2) I had to grind down the upper A arm and top of the ball joint a lot for it to fit.
3) The tires have insane grip and snapped one of my axles. hahaha.

I'll make a post later on how I did everything with pictures and edit this post with a link to it.

Thanks!
