Default C5 Drag Brakes

Has anyone put on a set of drag rotors and callipers on a C5? I am looking on doing some weight reduction and the stock rotors and callipers might be some great sources.

Strange makes lightweight drag brakes and rotors for the front and rear of the C5. I reduced about 40 pounds from the front and the same from the rear by going with the Strange brakes and rotors. If you don't drive your car on the street this is a great way to reduce a lot of weight from your car. Good luck.

"Strange" also.

If you get the spindle kit, you can go with a 15" wheel.

Do a search on this site with using rear C5 calipers, rotors on the front to reduce weight. Affordable and great stopping power on the strip and street. Can also use 15" front skinnies.
Fartpipe gave me the idea with his great write up

This is from my notes when I did them....
C5Z
front rotors =21.5lbs
rear rotors=16.3lbs

strange rotor =7.4lbs

I was mainly focused on rotating weight I'm sure the calipers are little bit lighter also.

Does anyone know the part numbers for the rotor/calliper for the rear? I found the front ones at jegs.

Same part number.....the C5 has same spindles front to rear (drivers front is the same spindle as passenger rear & vise versa).

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

Are new caliper brackets required to mount the new calipers or do they come with the kit? How bolt on it is the kit?

Jegs Link

OK, just about ready to pull the trigger on a set. I have seen that with these, 15" front rims can be used without spacers. If this is true, does anyone know of a make/model that will work?

If I do the rears also, would I be able to run 15" rims in the rear or would I need the LD drop spindles to do that?

If you run the drag brakes in the front any typical 15" skinny will/should work.
About the rear, you can run the drag brakes with or without the LG drag spindle. But only the drag spindle allows you to run 15" in the rear.

**.....You should be advised.....if you run Strange drag brakes they require you to trim the factory caliper location off of the spindle.....as well as some extra massaging of the LGs....**

Sorry for the late reply.....didn't see it.....

Pulling this out of the archives ...-
Can anybody tell me how far out the Strange brakes protrude from the pad surface of the rotor of a C5? Or do they not stick out past the rotor surface at all? (that would be great!)
thanks,

thanks,
The face of the caliper sits roughly 0.200" behind the wheel pad mounting surface/ rotor hat face.

I run my D10's with a zero decked pad and zero spacers.

Hope that helps....

I have been using them on the street for a couple of years. In process of replacing front pads and rotors but I have had zero problems using on the street and YES I have locked them up once or twice

IMHO there is plenty of stopping power with them for the street - is there another reason we are not supposed to do this?

Digging up an old thread but how do these mount to the spindle. I have an 11 base c6 I'm looking in to installing these on. I see it says the stock caliper mounts are removed. What other modification is needed? Thanks.

I am going to get LG drag spindles and Strange brakes on all four corners done in about a month or so. I can provide details pics afterwards.

Bumping this back to the top for more info. Aside from spindle modifications, are different lines required for the rear?
