opinions on halfshaft safety loops
I broke a halfshaft and busted the batwing along with some other damage. I was thinking about using some safety loops and was directed to these. http://www.dragvette.com/products.htm
I would like to hear other's opinions on their use. My thoughts are, they should really be 2 per halfshaft, considering it will still be flipping around under there if the wheel end breaks, at least till I get out of the throttle.
Would like to hear what others are running.
Thanks

Drag vett lopes are all their is out there .I used them for years and the shafts never came through the floor board right at your back. The card board in the drive shaft keeps them together not.
I never had a problem and I blew alot of half shafts!
Denny's nitrous ready half shafts!!

93 Ragtop,
I have the dragvette half shaft loops and drive shaft loop on my 95. I haven't broke a half shaft or driveshaft yet but consider them good insurance in case one does break. I did have to tweak the brackets some at install though to clear the shafts. Depending on where the shaft breaks, it may not totally protect everything but should help minimize damage. Also with having the drive/half shafts directly at your side and lower back, I want all the safety I can get should one break.I only run a 2800 stall though to help reduce impact shock on the rear at launch. I'm sure I could improve my 60'foot times and E.T. with more stall but reliability would go down. I still average 1.60 60' times though with my stall/cam combo. From everything I have read on the stock C4 drivetrain, It seems that when you start getting down in the 1.5x 60' time range, things really start to break.

Rick, for safety, I don't worry about the halfshaft as much as I do the driveshaft. (that I have a safety loop for.) The half shaft is behind the storage box, so there is a little more space. The driveshaft breaks on the front, and it can jack a car up going down the road.
Are the halfshaft loops adjustable as to where you can mount them on the batwing? Im thinking it would be better to have it outboard as much as possible. The reason being, it will probably break in the first 60ft, and until you get out of the throttle it will be flipping around by the power of the motor.
FWIW I have a 3000 stall converter but im getting ready to put a 4400 in it. Probably not the best move for reliability!!

Good point about the driveshaft loop. They are easy to fabricate using C shaped piece of steel bolted to the C-beam. I never had to use mine. I did break 2 halfshafts though, once taking out my passenger side storage box. My cure has been a 12 bolt.

Willie, do you know which end broke? ie: inboard or outboard end? I would really like to go with the 12 bolt or something solid, but I am keeping it on the street, and worry how it would drive on the road. Did you drive yours on the highway any, after installing the 12 bolt?
