Gear Chnage?
Here's the situation...
My factory automatic with almost 130k on it is on its way out. I'm getting it rebuilt by a good local builder. I'll be getting a progressive pressure shift kit along with a number of better-than-factory improvements on the internals. I'll also be getting a higher stall converter, but not over 2800. The tranny shop is still looking into what options their suppliers have available. I'm pretty sure it'll be 2800.
I've seen a number of posts that say in order to make it competitive in the straights I need to swap to 3.42 or 3.73 gears. My car has the G90 and G92 option codes. If my information is correct, the G90 means that I have 3.15 gears and the G92 means "Axle, Rear, Performance Ratio"...which since the ratio has already been determined by the other code I have no idea what it means.
My wife is already having a cow over the cost of the tranny build, so I don't want to jack it up too much. However, if it's multitudes easier and will save money in the long run to swap gears now (if I even need to), then I'll take my lashes and move forward.
So how much with these 3.15 gears hurt me in the long run? Change or keep?

What year car do you have?

When my 84 was on the street, I ran a 3.73 with an automatic. It was perfect for the street/strip. For a car more street oriented, a 3.54 could be considered too. Either one will work out fine.

really does not matter
The smallest of gear change like that will not show up in daily driving at all The 2800 stall will improve your take off noticeably. Once you reprogrammed the computer with your changes it takes over and adjust things anyways.
Unless your racing all the time save some money and get your rear end clutch packs redone and enjoy the ride
