I will update best I can with no computer...Big Mike is coming with as crew chief and Bon Vivant...thanks everyone...I expect to run 7.00 to 7.10 up on the mountain...the DA exceeds +4000 due to altitude...I figure to be 2 to 3 tenths slower...we'll see...if I have to take some bumps I may be dialing 7.30's......lol....
I'm off to the garage to air up the slicks and charge the battery...maybe a little tire snot to make them look pretty...

Tell Mike I will check the neighborhood Thursday to make sure the ice cream man isn't lurking somewhere.
You guys will have a great time, I used to love bristol . Expect high temp and humidity, just like here.

I'll tell Mike...thanks, Phil...I love road trips and combine that with a big money event and I am a happy camper...

I spoke with Dan earlier this afternoon, and because he is w/o access to his computer, he asked me to provide this update
* * *
he and ace side-kick Mike (Forum-member Red69) found a recently refurbished hotel last evening in N.C., and had dinner next door at Ruby Tuesday's before hitting the hay, arriving there with no incidents:
he did find gasoline for his tow-vehicle at a cheap price along the way, and topped-off his tank
this morning, they finished the trip to Bristol, unloaded the car, and did some work on the rear brakes, hoping to allow Dan to stage on the converter w/o creeping through the beams, and he reports the car has plenty of pedal:
because there isn't any fine sand in the area like there is in Florida, he is removing his air cleaner from the air-pan for this event, too
tonight is a Gambler's Race at 6:00 PM, with no prior time-shot, and because Dan hasn't raced on the Mountain for 5 years (and a few motor/transmission combinations ago), he has no idea what to dial:
I blurted-out "write '7.10' on the window, hit the tree, and use your Left foot if you have-to", which he said he'd already decided to use as a 1st Round strategy
as Dan gives me updates via phone this weekend, I will share them here as-soon-as I can, but as you know, once he returns he will provide an in-depth & colorful review of the racing at the World Footbrake Challenge

I used to love bristol. I talked to Mike a couple hours ago, he said the motel was only 60 bucks a night, that's a screaming deal in this day and age. I remember some of the crap holes we used to stay in when I was racing, sometimes I'd sleep in the race car if the area was sketchy. I was younger then.

Dan is getting ready fort he 3rd round of the Gamblers Race @ Bristol
160 cars made the call for the First Round
in that round, Dan dialed 7.10, and had a .029 RT, so when his opponent went Red, Dan ran it out, going 7.06
in the 2nd Round, Dan dialed 7.06, had a .019 light to his opponent's .164 RT, and won with a 7.058
if 160 cars entered, and he is going into the 3rd round, that makes (roughly) 40 cars remaining

Dan texted me a while ago, saying he lost in the 3rd round of the Gamblers Race
he had dialed 7.05, and although the 60' was good, his Camaro slowed-up a bit, and he was unable to run the number, so he is done racing on Day One of the WFC @ Bristol

I heard from Dan after his early time shot this morning, and the car ran another 7.06, with a 6, so he is happy with that consistency, as he prepares for today's $10,000-to-win event, which is slated to begin at 1:00 PM:
is Bristol, Tn. in the Central, or Eastern time zone?
I'm going to be busy the rest of the day (hot weather, hot car, hot date), and unable to provide updates as-they-happen, but I will try to post whatever he sends to me this evening early tomorrow morning

I spoke with Dan this morning, as he prepared to leave the hotel with Mike, bound for today's $20,000-to-win race
Dan said he fought the tree yesterday, reporting that he 'got lucky' and won the 1st round when his opponent went Red by .004-seconds (Dan was .061), so he ran his Camaro all-out, going 7.038, about .02 quicker than on Thursday:
he told me that he changed his launch-RPM, and thinks this is why the car went quicker
in the 2nd round, he dialed 7.03, and ran an identical 7.038, yet lost with an RT of .086, making it extremely frustrating because his opponent had went .058 and dead-on with a 1, for a package of .059:
Dan is mad because even a light of .050 advances him into Round 3
his car is performing flawlessly, so he knows he can concentrate solely on cutting lights, and he wants to work on his concentration today, as over 350 cars are expected for the race:
yesterday's corrected elevation (DA) was over 4200', and temperatures are in the mid-to-high 80*'s
even with a car that runs 7-flat in the 1/8-mile, Dan says he is one of the slowest cars on the grounds, and that he 'slowest' opponent to-date ran 6.45 (10.0's in the quarter), with several cars running in the 5-second range:
one car he saw runs 4.70's (mid 7's in the 1/4-mile?)

on a personal note, I saw on facebook that the son of an old friend, whom began racing with me in 1981, got down to 4 cars last evening in his small-block Ford Mustang II:
his Semi-Final finish paid $700

That's a tough break, and being a slowar car doesn't make it any easier. The up side to this is they seem to be paying out decent money.
I'm sure Dan can find his zone and do well.
