Default Are 305/45/17 too tall for 17" x 9.5 C5z wheels?

Looking at an option to put M/T 305/45/17's on my C5z 17 x 9.5 wheels. Some have suggested Hoosier 315/35/17's......any professional opinions out there?

Whats the setup on the car? Ive personally ran 315/35/17 on a 17x9.5. And also ran a 28" slick on the same wheel. All depends on your setup and what your doing with the car.

Default Setup

I am running stock front wheels and 345/30/19 NITTO NTR05's on the street. The M/T would be for an occasional track day, because I have such a hard time hooking up. We primarily run 1/8 mi tracks, but sometime go to 1/4 mi.

As far as the suspension, there is nothing modified that I am aware of, but the front sway bar is off because of the intercoolers. Trans maybe modified, but not sure. It has a CIRCLE D TRIPLE DISK BILLET 3200 TORQUE CONVERTER, Methanol Injection and we just went to a FORE LEVEL 2 DUAL PUMP RETURN FUEL SYSTEM.

We are running between 616-670 rwhp at 8-12 lbs of boost with a 2.9 Whipple.

As I stated, I am not looking to race every weekend, but when I go, I want to at least get down the track.

Oh cool dont see many 2.9 whipple builds. Well strictly speaking traction I've had good results with the hoosiers. Best 60' of a 1.42 and 6.71@103.7 in the 1/8. My car only makes low 500whp and has a 4000 converter. I have a set of those exact m/t but waiting for my wheels to come in to try them out.

Default 1/4 Mile Run

We did a 1/4 mile run a few weeks ago with the NT05R's, (see below slip) but I can't wait to put these MT ET Street r's on and see the difference.

I will be watching this thread with interest as I am trying to find the best drag race rear wheel / tire combo for my 2012 GS A6. I now have the car back from Matt @ FSP and I am waiting for track testing at Bradenton Motorsports Park. The car is heavily modded and did 776 RWHP on the dyno. I have been frustrated by my inability to get a definitive answer on what is the range of rear tire diameter that will not set off demons with the TC/AH system when paired with the stock fronts. I have seen many "professional opinions" that 28" tall tires will work...and just as many that say any rear tire that is much more or less than the stock 26.7" diameter will cause problems. By this "opinion" the 315/35/17 Hoosier's which spec at 25.6" would be too short. The 305/45/17 MT spec at 27.8" which would be too tall. I am now running the 345/30/19 Nitto NT05R that spec at 27.4" but have not caused a problem- go figure! Vengance Racing recommended to me that I go with the MT 295/45/17 that spec at 27.2" to stay as close as possible to the stock rear tire diameter but I sure would like to have bigger rubber back there. I run 305/35/18 MT's on my C5 with 436 RWHP and barely hook! I too seek "professional opinions" .

Default Tires

I took my MT 305/45/17's out and drove many miles with no problems, lights or gremlins. I have NITTO 555's 275/35/18's on the front. Hope this helps
