Default Division II IHRA Finals...

I am preparing to leave for the Division II finals at Carolina Dragway in Aiken, S.C....I will be pulling out on Tuesday morning at 7AM...I will be racing an event for five days in a row...the IHRA really gives someone who wants to race plenty of opportunities...

Nice money gamblers races on wed, thur and fri and team competition on sat and sun...this year I will be representing Palm Beach International Raceway...they really know how to take care of their racers...they pay for our tech card, 200 bucks in travel money, three full meals a day from wed on, prepared by a chef, with theme dinners every night...a new fire suit as a door prize at the Luau on Friday night and $500 to the racer who goes the most rounds in the team competition...oh yeah, I get two team t-shirts as well...lastly, we all get a goody bag with coupons for racing stuff, etc...

The weather looks fine all week and my car should run high 6.80's based on an expected DA of +3000....they also bring us cold water in the staging lanes while we are waiting...noice!...

Anybody on here who may be going, stop by the PBIR pit and say hi...

I'm jealous!

Our D1 bracket finals is this week as well. Parking Wed, Thurs and Fri gamblers races and Sat (into Sun if necessary) for elims. Tech card is paid for and a racer's dinner Thurs night, but that's about it (maybe a t-shirt).

Still looking forward to seeing 600+ of D1's finest. Hopefully Team Atco can make it 2 championships in a row.

Best of luck to you FD.

Right back at ya...I hope you turn on a bunch of win lights and, above all, be safe out there...

I just got off the phone with Dan, who gave me the following update on Day One

after arriving safely yesterday, he entered last evening's 1st Gambler's Race, and said the total payout for that event was close-to $3,200

through 7 runs (1 time shot and 6 rounds of eliminations), his Camaro was deadly, running 4.43 to the 330' on 6 runs, and 4.429 on the 7th pass

he lost in the 6th round, with just 5 cars left, to the eventual winner, by .001x seconds, going dead-on with a 3, to the victor's dead-on with a 2

despite temps in the high 80*s with high humidity, the car ran 6.90x all day and night, so he figures the car will be consistent this weekend

as I understand it, there will be more time runs both Thursday & Friday, with a Gambler's Race each day, then the Divisional Championships will run Saturday, and into Sunday, if-needed

if Dan gives me further updates, I will share them here, and he will probably give a detailed account once he returns early next week

Day Two did not go as-planned for Dan at the IHRA Division Championships, per a call I just received from him

after an early morning time shot that was quicker (6.87) than yesterday, he lined-up for the 1st Round of today's Gambler's Race in the Right lane, and at the flash the car instantly went Left, straight at the tree:
he quickly corrected, barely missing the Right-side retaining wall, and brought the car to a stop

apparently, his oil pan had a small leak, which eventually filled the diaper, and with the diaper saturated, oil was flung onto the slicks on the launch:
luckily, nobody was hurt

Dan had some racer help him in the pits, and although he day of racing was done, the exterior of the oil pan was cleaned-off, then epoxy was spread where the leak developed, with hopes that it will hold-up throughout this weekend of racing, then he'll have a new pan installed upon his return home

If all goes-well, he'll be back at it again tomorrow

he also said that gasoline is selling in the area for $1.66 / gallon

Happy he didn't hurt himself or the car. I hope he did well today.

I was busy all-day yesterday, then I left my phone in my work truck over-night without checking it for updates:
here is the latest & greatest

Dan lost in the 2nd round of Friday's Gambler's Race, but at-least the car didn't hemorrhage fluids onto the track, so for the time-being, he is satisfied the quick fix worked

Saturday, after getting a last time-shot, he won the first round of the Divisional Championships after treeing his opponent badly, then parked his car for the day, as the IHRA runs the entire 1st Round on Saturday, with the remainder of the event conducted on Sunday:
1st Round losers can enter a 2nd Chance Race on Saturday afternoon, with that winner advancing back into the main event on Sunday

earlier this morning, Dan won the 2nd round after making a guess at his dial-in, and he called me again within the last 30 minutes after winning the 3rd Round, running 6.946 on a 6.95 dial-in, advancing when his opponent fouled-out:
with a .001 R.T., he might be in-line for an odd-lot bye-run for the 4th Round

as he is having less time between rounds, he sounded a bit hurried, but we quickly calculated that there are probably 25-30 cars left in No-Box

I spoke with Dan in the last 20 minutes, and he is loaded-up and on the way home after a grueling 5 days of racing

it's not my place to tell how he did, and we agreed that HE will give all of the details, but he did extremely well this weekend, so keep looking for his post-race report and comments
