How much will a 28" tire hurt me?
Hi all,
I'm having a bit of a tire dilemma. I want to move to a bias ply from my 275/40/17 Hoosier Drag radials for ease of launch with my m6 car, but I was wondering if I could get some opinions or if I'm simply not making enough power or have the gear for it.
I'm making about 500whp/460tq, with a base c6 (base gearing, 3.42 rear end). My best 60' to date on the radial is a 1.68, I know I can do better but I just don't make it to the track enough to really get it down.
I'm about to install some viking double adjustable coilovers as well. The reason for wanting the slick is 2 fold, first since it's easier on parts on my stick car and secondly simply because it is more forgiving to launch. Since Mickey Thompson isn't going to give us the 26" tall 17" slicks back, I was thinking of trying the 28x10.0x17 hoosier slick, but not if it's going to kill my 60's.
What do you guys think? One day I do intend to install 4.10's in the car and I think that will change this up quite a bit.
Thanks!

At your power level and with 3.42, I would most certainly not recommend a 28" tire.
You are heading the right direction, though. A 26" bias ply tire is what you should be looking for.

We need a rep from Mickey Thompson so that we can plead a case to bring their options back

Try a 16" wheel.
Take off F-body wheels fit. And they're cheap.
I believe Hoosier makes a 16x26 QTP.

I sure hope this is accurate. I want to try a pair of 16" Hoosier slicks on the back of the Vette if the Mickey Thompson ET Street R 17" radials don't hold. I've already got 4 16" Z/28 salad shooters I've had forever. They're still on my Camaro SS.
