Decent day at the Track...
and then my head exploded...sigh...
Today was another NHRA points event at Orlando Speedworld...beautiful weather with a high of 80* and a slight breeze...My first timeshot was at 11AM and I would have gone about 6.64 with a .025 light...sadly, I completely forgot to turn on my gas cylinder for my shifter...oops...hit the limiter and aborted the run...
My second pass I went 6.64 with a .030 tree...I am ready for elims...first round I get a lady from Palm Beach that I know...she dials 7.19 in her S dime and I put 6.65 on my board...the tree drops and she sits there...I actually left before her but it was very disconcerting...I screwed it up and lost focus going -.033...as you might guess she was .229 on the tree and ran 6 numbers under her dial...good grief!!!!...I ran it out and went 64 with a 7 on my 65 dial...
I make the walk of shame and buy back in...second round I get a friend in his 70's toyota corona with a 2JZ motor and turbo with spray...he dials 7.01 holding and I put 6.64 on the board...I kill him on the tree with a .004 to his .155...he sprays to catch up but no way and I rip it FTW goung 6.73
I have the bye in round 3 but with an even number of cars I have to run a buddy in his 72 Challenger...he dials 6.92 and I put up a 6.64 once again...he beats me on the tree with a .030 to my .041...I push him as hard as I can and he goes under by a hun...lucky win for me as I spun a bit and went 6.67...
Now we are down to seven cars but this track does not carry over the bye...I am first in line next to a buddy in his gorgeous 67 Mustang fastback Ellenore clone...he dials 7.09 and I go with 6.67 figuring I am holding a couple...this is when I became an idiot...
They stopped to re-prep the track...I let my car cool down way too much...I am chatting and they open the gate for us to run...OMG!...I cannot get my car to more than 144* coolant on launch...normally it is 155 to 157*...I am ready to park it at the big end but no matter...I completely miss tghe tree with a sparkling .122 light to his .019...I ran it out for giggles and went 6.620...
I had fun even with the first and last round of elims...the car is beginning to come around...because I race on 93 pump gas it is very sensitive to ambient temps, coolant temp and staging position as well...

FD,
Glad to hear you had a good race and went some rounds. I think we forget how challenging our "sport" can be and how many things have to go right for a "win" and how "lady luck" can have her way!
I had to miss a race day again as my C5 is (finally) in the shop to have the harmonic balancer replaced. It has taken forever for my guy to be able to take it in his shop. He was able to take the C5 only after getting the C6 GS back together and to me. I have to put 300 "easy" street miles on the C6 to break in the new rear diff and return it to him for WOT dyno tuning. I can't believe it is almost three years since I took the car over to Bradenton FL for the now-defunct Florida Speed and Power to start the build.
I hope to see you at the next race.

Just curious if you use trap mph for any consideration on dialing in the car ?

I use 60' and 330' times for dialing...I rarely use my 660' times because I am ripping and parking it to tighten the stripe most runs...heck, I shut down after the 330' mark on my bye runs...no need to give your opponents more info than you need to...I also run the opposite lane on my bye runs since I might end up there later on...
Best of luck racing....

No, I never have...if I am off my number to the slow side I look at mph to see if it is down so there may be something wrong with the motor...running on your dial is really more about how well you put whatever power you make to the ground...
