Anybody using 1.7 rockers in a SBC (not LS1)
I have a set i plan to try, but i'm wondering why they are not more popular. Of course i'm going to have to check piston to valve clearance and valve train geometry before i try them, but if that works out...why not?? They will provide a faster valve and greater lift. I assume they will also induce float sooner as a result. Anybody have any experience with these?????????

Clem, i dont know!!!! i haven't tried them yet, but they came off a set of afr 190s..same heads i'm running. They were used with a solid cam though and i've got a hyd.

1.7 rockers put quite a load on the valve train because of the rocker ratio. if you have after market heads with 7/16" studs, a stud lock bar and roller tappets they should work.

I have 1.7's on my intake, with 1.6 on the exhaust. My experience may not be totally applicable because I'm using Jesel shaft rockers. But I haven't had any problems. I've seen Crower SBC rockers as high as 2.0. If your springs can handle it (coil bind), and you don't have any valvetrain interference (retainer, valveguide, etc) you should be fine. You may have to open up the pushrod slot though.

i have 7/16 rocker studs and roller everything. Monty are you running a solid or Hyd (thought it was solid)??? i'm most concerned about inducing float too early (assuming the clearances are OK). It would be a crazy fast valve....595 lift with only 219 duration!!!!

Ralph,
I'm running a solid roller. I think you'd be fine, on my 383 I had a custom hyd roller Crower that had slightly over valve .600" lift with only 224 duration. I'm assuming since you said it was 219 duration, that you're using the LPE 219 cam. From what I've heard, that cam has pretty conservative closing ramps, might wanna call LPE just to see hwat they think.
Do you have a rev kit? Worst case, you might have to step up the spring pressure a little. But you concerns are founded, there's no guicker way to screw up valve springs, as well as the rest of the valve train, than float.
