I purchased this camshaft from the original owner. He pull the cam and lifters out of the factory crate motor never fired from the late 80's.
I do not have a cam card. He tells me it was the L88 version.
This motor has the Open Chamber 12.5 pistons.
The old schoolers tell me that it should be the 180 cam not the 535.
Who can help me figure out the correct information?

As I remember it... the 5535 was the L88 Cam with about 560" lift, and the 180 was the later ZL1 (Aluminum Block) cam, with around .600" lift. Duration numbers and LSA changed too, and It ran better than the older L88 Cam. Can't you find any part #s on it? Either would be bettered by todays Cams; 40 years of development ya know...

The LS-7 and the ZL-1 used the same camshaft 3959180. All L-88s even the late open chambered head '69s used 3925535. From the Chevrolet Power Manual here are the LS-7 specs: Intake/Exhaust Lash 0.24"/0.26" Lift 0.560"/0.600" Dur 347/359 Overlap 135.

And to add to that, the lobe separation angle is 110 degrees.

Anyone looking for a set of 8 standard bore 454 (LS7) O/C 12.5 GM pistons pins and locks included?
