Re: Largest stroke in a ZZ4 short block? (vettes rule)
go for a 396 or a 383
383: 3.75" crank and 4.030 bore
396: 3.875" crank and 4.030 bore
383: 3.75" crank and 4.030 bore

What mods are required to the block to go with either the 383 or the 396? More specifically the clearancing for the longer stroke?
Thanks,
Vic

My engine builder had to grind away on the block to make clearance for the connector rods. It is just a trial and error thing. You need to figure out where to grind, grind a bit, then try to fit the crank/rod/piston in and see if it clears. If it doesn't you grind some more.
You can build your engine for as much horsepower as your checkbook can handle.

Thanks guys. I think when I get the $$$, I will go with a 396.
