Default 1988 neutral safety switch

I would like some opinions on whether or not I can buy a 1988 Camaro neutral safety switch and remove the metal mounting base and attach it to the old Corvette part ? The Camaro part is readily available. The only difference is the metal back which is how it mounts to the shifter. The part costs $75 off Corvette Central or Ecklers. I saw it for $60 on eBay. At autozone it is $26+ tax. Napa told me its unavailable as well as every parts retailer I can find online.

I'd post a link to this topic on the C4 Technical forum to see if someone has done this already. Sounds like it should work; however, see if you get any feedback on the C4 forum.
