Default Lt1 HP Potential??

I have a chance to get a low mile(50k mile) LT1 ("97 Z28) engine for a good price. I think these are 285 hp stock. What is its potential w/head and cam swap. I have alittle budget to play with because the price for the engine is low. Is the LT4 HotCam kit from GMPP and LT4 heads my best bet or ???
Is over 400hp possible??
Its for a frequently driven street car so I want it fairly civilized.
Any and all suggestions appreciated

GMPP LT4 heads are WAY overpriced. You can port your LT1 heads and get more power for less money.

You won't get 400 RWHP from a Hot Cam.

Go here: http://www.eportworks.com/lt1.html
and here: http://www.advancedinduction.com/AiProductsLT1.html

I would say you start to lose daily drivability around 350-360 RWHP, give or take, on a 350 bottom end.

The only way to get to 400 RWHP with good street manners is to up the displacement (383, 396, etc).

The LT1 mated to an A4 feels so much faster than it is thanks to the gearing and superb low end torque these motors make. A cold air intake and a cam should really move.

not completely true, wild a mild cam and new heads, then maybe add a decent set of long tube headers <$500 and maybe a having your throttle body ported and polished you can probably get 400 and still be streetable, you might want to look into a new air lid too

I dyno'd 360 rwhp with a stock bottom end and a great Cartek top end package, 52 tb and long tubes.

I have a 95 LT1 camaro with lt4 intake, bbk 58mm throttlebody, Flowmaster exhaust, straight pipes, 2 and a half header long tubes, MSD everything, Ss ram air hood with K&N filter, high flow oil pump, shift kit with firmness control in dash, fan mod with bypass if I forget to turn them on, and a 373 rear end ,what else can I do to get me above 400hp ?? I heard a hot cam, springs and 1.6 roller rockers would do that for me. And still be street drivable.

To the OP.....what kind of car are you putting this engine in? The Camaros had intake limitations, due to lack of clearance for a taller intake, as well as space limitations for a good exhaust. Corvettes, not as many limitations....

I am the one with the 1995 lt1 with the Lt4 intake, bbk 58mm throttlebody. Im going to get the heads ported also. Just on a budget , so it takes time.what is on the car now was easy to do for hp. Bigger gains to come I hope. That's why I wanted to know about the hot cam. Package with 1.6 roller rockers. Or should I send my heads off to Lloyd eliot and get the trickflow package. I think that's the name Of it.
