96 Z28 running hot (fans wont come on unless AC running)
Title basically says it all. It runs hot and the fans will not kick on. If I turn on the AC, the fans go and car runs normal. What you guys think?

As "Turbo Bob" said, I'd be suspicious of the coolant temp sensor, but first you need to define "hot". It could be your thermostat has gone bad, too. My "Z" runs around 180*, at operating temp, and I seldom hear the fans kick on while I'm driving, unless, of course, I turn on the A/C.

The good old lt1 motor. My vette fans will not come on until 260 degrees then turn off at 240 unless I turn on the a/c. Start with the thermostat and change the coolant.

I've had a couple cars do this. It was the fan relay. There are two relays, one controls the fan when the A/C is on and the other controls the fan without A/C.

I ran into this same problem with my 96SS years ago. The stock setting for the fans to switch on isn't until the temp gauge is well past the half way point on the dash. The best way to have this fixed it to have the on off points for the fans adjusted with a tune.
