Any Vette owners out there that used to be F-Body guys?
I've been doing a ton of research on the C5 and C6 lately. Long story short, I'll be relocating to Roseville CA next fall and I've made the decision to sell my SS due to it not being smog legal.
How do you guys like driving the vette compared to the F-Body? What do you miss the most when comparing the two?
I'm leaning towards C5 Z06. I think with a 25K budget I can pick up a nice one.
What do you guys think?

C5z is an excellent car. My opinion is it offers the same if not little better performance than the LS3 C6's. Still looks amazing and will be a definite collectors car in the long term. My biggest concern is the availability of certain parts for it though. A lot of the fbody and corvette electronics from the late 90's are becoming hard to find.
My SS is very well balanced and has good traction. It does not have anywhere near the grip, high end power, outward visibility, nor the braking ability. It's a little softer ride, which is a good thing on our broken streets. I do like the fbody's ability to squat and go in a straight line thought, the corvette doesn't do that. The corvette is more forgiving if you do something dumb, if you get the fbody out of line to much it won't come back and your pointing the wrong direction in a hurry. Corvette has a better chance of getting back in line. Stock for stock the fbody is a better drag and stop light to stop light car. I think my SS would give my C6 a good run up to about 70mph. Fbody can also downshift to 2nd at freeway speeds giving it a little advantage when passing cars when there isn't much room. I just can't do that to the corvette, I have to use 3rd and it's not in the high rpm power band. All in all, I think the fbody was and still is a better street car. I try to save the vette for freeway driving when not much traffic is around. It'll do whatever you need it to, but when given the choice I use the fbody for city and bad weather and vette for long trips and freeway.
Both are easy to drive, easy to park, equal in the gas milage department combined (vette is much better on freeway though) and great low end power. They have advantages over each other but to me gets balanced by the realities of street driving. Neither is perfect.

Some of us Vette owners are still F-body owners. From the ultimate driving experience, there's no comparison...Vette
From the nostalgic muscle car perspective...69 Camaro

Nice cars!
Believe me, if I could keep it I would. I've put a lot of work into it. The car brought my father and I closer together this past winter. Been modding it with an 11 sec goal in mind.

Sold my 99 Z (bolt on's, cam, full exhaust and suspension) after 13 years and bought the corvette. Power is fairly close but two totally different cars. Never looked back

Have a Vette now, but went real old school with that one. Not planning on selling my 99 SS ever - too much time and money put in!

Current car is 15 Stingray z51, my 3rd vette (09 and 04 previously) and i love it!
Previous F-bodies:
02 Trans Am
98 TA
97 TA
95 Z28
93 z28
92 z28
89 IROC
89 RS
74 Camaro
I think that's about it for F bods. Also had an 84 Monte SS (should have kept!) and an assortment of DD's past and present.
The only thing better about owning an F-bod versus the vette is this, i was younger then. That's about the only advantage i can think of. Although my insurance dropped when i went from TA to a C5, believe it or not. I guess even though the car cost a lot more and was new, they don't get wrecked as much.
I loved all of my cars when i had them but it wasn't enough to keep trading them to chase that extra 10 horsepower or whatever it was at the time. New models and new motors were always a reason to go and buy a new one as well. All of them were fun, and without trying to sound like a dong here, none of them compared to the corvette. There is just something about it, you'll know what i mean when the time comes!
Anyway i wish you luck in whatever you do. The C5 is a great car and you would enjoy the hell out of it. And the C6 coupe i had felt like a beast with the LS3.

My C-5 is a 2001 model, bought brand new in July of 2001. However, I also had a 1977, a 1985, and a 1996 F-body, with the '96 being owned at the same time as the C-5. I just sold the Z/28 a couple of weeks ago, as I just didn't drive it as much as I used to, and sort of lost interest in keeping it......

Does a '69 Camaro count? Too bad I sold it in 1988. I still regret that.
Give me a break on the non-original styling please....it was 1983....and I was in high school.

I WAS an F-Body, all Firebird and Trans Am's, guy myself u,til I bought my C5 in 2006. At that time I had two 1993 Trans Am's and the difference between the cars was night and day. Parted one of them out to facilitate mods on the C5.
Ended up selling the C5 very begrudgingly in 201o, but still had the one 93 Trans Am which was making 767 rwhp compared to the C5 making 761. Even at this power level, night and day difference. The trans am was raw, tempermental, and plain felt heave compared to the smooth refinement of the C5.
I said I WAS an F-Body guy. I ought that same C5 back in May this year. And I still have the 93 Trans Am, or what's left of it. After getting back what I couldn't stop comparing it to, made no sense to keep it. So parted it and paid off the Vette.
Once you make the jump you'll not look back.
