Default NCRS Flight Judging question

Is it true that transmissions are not judged? Specifically, if a C2 was originally equipped with a PG, but now has a TH350 with all orignal appearing oil cooler, lines and visible shifter linkage, will there be any point deductions?

You would receive a full deduction for the wrong trans, and also a full deduction for condition. I don't know exactly how many points that would be on a mid-year, as I don't have any early judging manuals at home.

In the 78-79 and 80-82 judging manuals, only 3 points is assigned to the trans and linkage, and 3 more their for condition. Unless I'm missing something, worse case for a 78-82 with the wrong trans, would only be a 6 point deduction! That's out of a possible 4500 points.

Not much of a deduction then, at least for '78-82. I've ordered a '63-64 TIM/JG, hoping I can glean the information from there.

The Judging Guide will prove useful when evaluating the appearance of originality of line items. The 1st link below is to the judging sheets that list points for the various items checked for the appearance of originality and condition. The 2nd link below is to the Judging Reference Manual.

Judging Guides are specific to year(s) and tell you WHAT is judged. The Judging Reference Manual is general in nature and tells you HOW to judge.

Thanks mapman. I received my JG for '63-64 and see there are sections for the transmission involving kickdown linkage, cooler lines, stampings, etc. In order to know what these items are worth points-wise, I need to look at the actual judging sheets, is that right?

All I really want to know is what the deduction would be for having a TH350 instead of the PG.

Download the judging sheets. Remember that The Transmission shows up in item 10 of the "Chassis" judging sheet and Item 10 of the "Interior" judging sheet. There are 4500 points in Flight Judging (plus 10 bonus points). Cut-off for Top Flight is 94%, 2nd Flight 85%, 3rd Flight 75% so loosing a few points does not matter much.

Just printed out the judging sheets. Looks like a total of 45 points to lose on transmission items in the chassis section, maybe more elsewhere; that's 1% of the total. I've got some ciphering to do
