Suzanne is selling her C5 at an auto auction?
Yes, boys and girls, after much contemplation and goading by my co-workers and mulling the idea for a long, long time....I feel it's time to move on and upgrade from a C5 to a C6.
Some of you may know that I have put a ton of love and money into my car, and have gone through it with a fine tooth comb to rid it of any problems that existed and upgraded where necessary. It runs perfectly. Mileage is kinda high at 50K. (for a 10 year old car? That's 5K miles driven per year)
I am contemplating taking the car to auction to sell. I'm just not keen on the idea of trying to sell it on my own and haggling with people and having nut jobs come to my house to case the joint.
I have never done the auction thing, and want to know if anyone has done this before. The auction company that I want to do business with is right by my house.
Here' their website:
http://www.greaterdetroitaa.com/
How it works is this: I bring the car to them on a Thursday and they snap photos of it and post it on their website in advance of the auction that would take place on Saturday. I leave the keys with them and I would show up on that given Saturday to "stand guard" at the car to make sure no yahoos get in it and screw with it. They guaranteed me that the car would not sit outside between Thursday and Saturday. If the reserve is not met, then I only owe $25. If it sells, then I pay them $375 commission.
What makes me nervous about this? Well, it just does in general because I've never done it before, and when the keys and car is out of my hands from Thursday to Saturday I get jittery.
If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know, I'd like to know their opinion.

Suz - I wish you luck! I've never done this before so I cannot give you any guidance. Hope the forum crew can give you the advice you need!
So, are you gonna save the LEDs for the C6? I definitely know how to make them work!!!

Why not sell it on the BIG aution site? More viewers, and you don't have to deal w/any one till car is sold. Have a reserve price in mind. If bids don't reach your reserve, you still have your car, Isn't this the start of the "worst time of the year" to get the most for your Vette? Why not set on it till spring and get your C/6 around Christmas(best time to buy a Corvette) then sell your C/5 in the spring.

Is that the auto auction on Sibley just east of I-275? If so, I would be surprised if corvettes fit the norm of what they usually deal with...I have no experience with them, but, to me, it doesn't sound like the cards are in your favor....I would hate to turn over keys, hell, they might jump on the Eway and abuse the crap out of it during that limbo period; of course, I am overly paranoid about these things!

If that is the place that used to be known as Motors Auction Group, my brother-in-law used to be a national buyer for them and was previously mentioned, nice higher end vehicles probably are not their market. At least in the MAG days, they sold a lot of 4-10 year old everyday vehicles, often bought up from dealers and or resold to dealers. Occasionally a nice muscle car would roll through but not very often.

Thanks for the opinions on the auto auction. If they don't deal in higher end vehicles, it isn't a fit for me. This also takes the stress out of leaving the keys and car there for 3 days.
I think I'll give Fleabay a try.

I received an email that someone at Cauley was looking for a used Corvette. I deleted the email but I will ask tonight when I go to the board meeting.

I'm remembering an email I received about 2-3 weeks ago from Buds Chevrolet in St. Marys, Ohio... asking for clean C5's. Seems there is a demand... and they don't have enough stock.

Friends or no friends in the business, dealerships will NEVER give you what you can sell your vehicle for on your own. If they did, they wouldn't be making a profit. But thanks very much for the recommendation. I'm always open to suggestions.

As was said above, this is pretty much the worst time of the year to sell a Corvette in this area but if you're also looking to buy now I guess it could be a wash.

Best of luck selling the car. And hope you find a C6 at a very good price.
