Default Illinois emissions check and headers

I had my car done at Speed inc. 2006 C6. Got headers (no cats) and tune. According to speed inc. I will pass the inspection. I just got my first notice to get tested. Has anyone passed the inspection that has headers and no cats and is from Illinois?

You're fine. I did a small cam, headers, no cats, and loud a## granatelli exhaust my self. Oh yeah tune with a crane hand held tuner and pass emissions with flyin colors!!!!

Because my car was loud the guy there thought i wasn't gone to pass. HA HA HA well it did with no issues. Also long as your car is not throwing any codes (check engine light on) it will pass.

I think technically there is supposed to be a visual inspection, but I don't think its ever really done. I don't have cats on my 06 and I'm kinda worried about this too.

oh my gosh I'm so glad that I found this thread!! I have headers and no cats with a tune also and I've been scared to take my Z in for emissions (first time, bought it last year).

I tried to send in a check for my new license plate sticker without getting the test and they sent the check back. I called them and said that the car was in 25 pieces being rebuilt and I couldn't bring it in lol.

Can I have pepboys turn the check engine light off and go right in??

no there needs to be a history on the computer 50 or so starts . if your car has check engine light then you need it re tuned or the rear o2 sesors shut off . either way you need a tuner to look at it

There is no need to have 50 starts after the codes are clear, The last time I cleared a few codes in the waiting line and passed no problem, That 50 start thing is a myth. Just go and pass and get it over with, Good luck.

Well - here is my emissions update. I stuck it to the man! I decided not to do the emissions. I just upgraded to a 2008 Z06 without any mods - dealer took my 2006 C6 and I did tell him I had no cats.

The whole 40 and 50 start cycles and different readiness test are different for every manufacturer. There are some cars that do require x amoutn of starts and x amount of miles so the system will be "in readiness mode" for OBDII.. from what I read these type of readiness test are more prevelant in forgein cars... but as stated we are talking about vettes here. All I've ever done is make sure the check engine light is not on and the car is at operating temp and you are fine. As stated before if you have headers you need to have a reputable tuner turn the rear 02 sensors off so you can pass emissions.

if u pull the battery on a vette hence reseting the computer you will fail for the system not being ready

I stand corrected, Greg you are correct, I do recall someone else not passing with a Vette because of this.
