Default Illinois People... Please Help!

Hey guys
I sadly have to note, i "sold" my z06 to this dude in the picture on July 11th. Long story short, he scammed me, gave me a bad cashiers check, and now they have my Z06. He was acting as an employee of Luxury Motors Imports, under the name of Gus. He had a stolen dealers plate as well, Plate # 207 or #203 (i can't recall exactly).

I held the title, got all his info and vehicle... So the FBI, Chicago PD and insurance have been notified. This is a federal crime at this point so if he is caught, its bad news for him.

The car had a ton of parts in it. I am fairly certain it was parted out, but can you guys keep an eye out and spread the word locally to be on the look out for the car and/or parts. Heres a list of parts:

Borla Stinger Exhaust
FAST 102 intake/ Nick WIlliams TB
Kooks 1 7/8" headers and 3" x-pipe
Motor was mildly modified with a cam and milled heads
Halltech intake
ZR1 chin spoiler and rear spoiler
comp gray wheels
tint lenses and fog lights.

If any flood of Z06 parts b/m available, please notify my and i will direct it to the Chicago PD.

Personally, i am very disgusted how people can pull such a deal. I hope he is caught and can't do this to anyone else. I am sick to my stomach that my baby is gone... But in the end, i was safe in the whole ordeal and thats what matters. I know im not getting the car back and i am hoping insurance pays out of it.

Any help would be much appreciated. Please spread the word locally on forums or clubs/FB groups, etc... Thanks fellow Vette guys!

Bummer. Scam artists, just no end to the deceit.

Hopefully they are caught.

That's horrible news. You know when they say "if its too good to be true, it is" usually goes a long way. I believe insurance would cover this under comp, so you should be ok.

A lot of stress has been relieved after that phone call, but im still not out of this hole yet. I'll be happy when money is back in the account! LOL

The car is probably already in Europe or Russia and retitled.

AJ,

I really am sorry that this happened to you buddy that really sucks but as you have posted above and your subsequent posts you will be good to go with your Comprehensive Insurance Coverage on your vehicle, especially since you still have the title.

Good luck on getting your $ back from the insurance company asap, you will be taken care of in the long run that is why you have been making all those premium payments over the years.

Thanks Randy. Called you pops to have him write me up an appraisal on the car. Im sure the insurance comp will only pay "market" value, but just prepared to get low balled.

Thank you. Very true, greed is a dirty evil that will always exist.

Thank you Jimmy. Yes indeed... years and thousands of dollars of insurance premiums hopefully help my situation. Plus, clean record and no claims aught to help.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Did the police see the picture? Could they not pull the plates to see who owns that car or was that car/plate stolen as well?

Good and bad news guys.
They found the guy and arrested him. Can't go into details but they did retrieve my car. Unfortunately it is not in mint shape anymore. Looks like they took it to a drag strip in Indiana, US 41 (?). Lost control on the strip and hit the front end. Easily looks like it needs a new front bumper, spoiler and possibly hood/fenders.

At any rate, I'm going to push the insurance comp to salvage it out and pay me off. The car will likely be held as evidence for the case and will be long and strung out ordeal. The guy will def be going to jail.

Case solved... Had I not taken mental notes and pics of this whole deal, who knows if they ever would have caught him. I feel extremely blessed that I was safe in the whole ordeal and I feel super happy that I have prevented him from pulling a scheme or etc on anybody else.

What a relief. Now... To find a replacement.
