Default dealer service recommendation

I am buying a new C7 z06 and it's coming from out of state. I need an good dealership for service on the new ride. I was going to Ogden Chevy in Downers Grove, but they closed years ago and the people there were fantastic. I still go to my mechanic there for service at his house. any suggestion for the New z06 for dealer service?

I don't mind the drive up to Libertyville Chevrolet - mainly because I trust the Vette Tech - Kevin Paddock. He's the best around IMHO, and he runs the Chevy endorsed High Performance Mod shop up there too. He's the only guy that touches my car!

And CONGRATS on what will be a monster car! Hope to see you around. Come to one of the Chicago Crew lunches!

You might consider Bill Stasek Chevrolet (Wheeling) as they are the Midwest's leader in Corvette sales and actually support our fine forum.

We'd love to help you out with any service needs you might have, over the last year we've delivered about 200 stingrays so far and have two certified master Corvette technicians with over a decade of experience each when dealing with Corvettes here at our dealer. Just drop me a line if you need help scheduling any appointments.

Curious, how many C6Z's have you checked for worn guides as outlined in GM's TSB? Dont know if you would have access to that info or not..............thanks!

Thanks for the question, unfortunately there's no way that I know of to search our system for the number of worn guide's on Z06's that we've handled.

Brent,

I am dealing with the issue now and I have contacted GM on this issue. My car is at Bill Kay and they took the engine apart and told me I have the issue. My issue is that they are very vague on this and I have already caught them on a couple of inconsistencies in their story and I like to take the car for an second opinion and maybe the work to someone else. This issue is making me rethink of buying another GM product ever and not move forward with my Z06, even though I have an allocation already guaranteed. I like to speak to you about this.

Phil, is your car under an extended warranty?

GM wasn't straightforward with me on the valve issue either so I traded my 07 Z06 (for peace of mind). If the guides are out of spec (hour glass) they replace them with the same parts that are questionable to begin with. If internal damage is done you might get a new engine or the old one simply repaired. Either way it is a large task and you have to trust/hope that all is turned back to normal once complete.

If the car is not under warranty I would have the work done by one of our trusted local speed shops with quality aftermarket parts.

Keep us posted.

No my warranty was just out end of last year and I was planning on buying the new Z06 and I have a deposit down on one. Right now I am thinking I want nothing to do with GM ever again, unless they step up to their responsibility. This is an known issue on some of these motors and owners weren't made aware of and I had to find out when a friend of mine that is a Corvette mechanic told the me sound isn't right when he drove the car. This is the first American car I have ever bought and I had thought maybe the old GM is gone and I can trust them again.....we have to wait and see. If not, I will have it fixed and I will go and buy an Aston and move away from any American cars for ever.I have been buying Japanese and European cars for a long time and I have never ever have an issue like this ever. This was not an tracked, dragged, sat out in the weather beaten car. Very disappointing and upsetting and I can't trust this dealer either, my old dealer was fantastic, I wish they were still around.

The C6 Z is a spectacular vehicle! Have the heads done right by a local shop and enjoy the heck out of it for years to come.

I too am leery about a new Colorado purchase after the LS7 issue and recent GM recalls to my family's cars.

The way things are shaping up you could have big headaches with the C7 Z, why give your hard earned money to a company that doesn't seem to care.

I am starting to feel that way. I am going to get a new car come spring, maybe I will get the Aston Martin Vantage and go upscale. The dealers here has trying to get me into one og there cars for a while, even offer to drop one off at my house to test drive it. Funny thing is I drove to Bill Kay with a friend of mine in his Ferrari F430, because he wanted to check out an stingray and they wouldn't let him test drive it......lol we have no problem getting the keys to Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Audi and Aston but an Stingray ....oh no not that one next to the Cruze...that's too precious. Someone need to put on their big boy pants I think. Between him and I we bought 7 cars in the last year.

I have my eye on a used Zr1 but would have to stay working to afford it. If I keep my beautiful 12 GS I can enjoy it in retirement.

Such problems we have.

Best wishes...

Thanks. I hope you get your ZR1.

It's going to be interesting to see how GM handles this situation. I really think they should spin Corvette off form the Chevy dealers and take it to the next level. Maybe take the top 5 dealer from each market and create a different dealership for corvettes with the appropriate dealership experience for the corvette customers.

Update:

I finally got the car back from Bill Kay Chevy n Downers Grove. GM agreed to pay 60% of the repairs and I have to pay 40%. This is for new heads, valves and intake rocker arms. My end is about $2,600. I ended up speaking to the Zone Manager at Bill Kay and he agreed to give me an additional $2,000 GM certificate that I can use on any GM car. This is on top any deal I get from any dealer, including the new Z06. I figure I can either sell the certificate for less than face value and recover some of cost there or use it for the new Z. This is good for one year, and its transferable. I guess I am satisfied with it. I just like to move on and enjoy the car.
