Default Finally pulled the trigger

Well I finally pulled the trigger, bit the bullet (insert preferred euphemism) etc........... The '66 is getting done over the winter. Most of the major parts are waiting, some others will be delivered in early January. The suspension rebuild should be completed shortly after the first of the year, and the real work starts.

Great news Len, your 66 Vette is going to be a blast to drive when she is all done.

What was the final engine your pulling the trigger on?

Was it the Shairiff built 402 alum. small block making around 575 HP when we talked last?

Hey Jimmy! Yes, but I have made a few "changes" in the build spec

It should end up ~ 550HP / 550 TQ. The rear end is getting rebuilt, 3.90, new Posi, BB Stub Axles & sway bar; 3 1/2" half shafts. Bilstiens all around. All of the suspension will be rebuilt / restored (new springs etc). Tremec 5sp; Hooker side pipe headers, etc etc. all of the major parts are either here or on their way. The car should be back to me (after the suspension work is complete) shortly after the first of the year, and then the fun begins. The "plan" is to have all of the mechanical work done by early April. I have not quite decided on paint yet. I / we (my friend Rick) may go "old school" and do a lacquer paint job, still a bit up in the air.

You have to be really excited to get the project underway. Best of luck getting the car completed - sounds like it will be a great car with power to be a real beast on the street.

You should have just purchased some Montgomery Wards studded snows and made that clunker a winter driver. This car is on my short list of one I should not have sold.

Thanks for all of the kind words of encouragement!

Randy: Looking forward to seeing you as well! The Single Malt knowledge comes from YEARS of experimenting

Tommy: I thought you might feel that way! If you are in the area after the car comes back, give me a call; I'll buy lunch.

That will be a fun car! Make sure you save any original parts.

If you are adding a rear sway bar, you should up size the front bar.
Are you doing the work yourself?

Our '66 has a big block that is putting out about the same power/ torque as yours, and is backed up by a Tremec as well. We travel all over the US with it.
Let us know in advance if you are planning a "garage session". I wouldn't mind helping out.

Thanks for the offer of help! The suspension work is being done by Vtech Corvette in Rockford Il. I am doing the rest. The cluster will likely go to "Clocks by Roger" to be restored / upgraded. Still have not quite decided on paint.

I may start a build thread or just continue to post updates here.

Stay tuned!

The peak numbers are in on the engine:

HP = 530 @ 6K
TQ = 529 @ 4900

Should be a BLAST to drive! The engine should be here before Christmas. Also located a guy that builds EXACT replica teak steering wheels.

CANDY APPLE RED, Len!!

Count me in also if you need a hand with anything. Post up when you'll be working on it and see how many guys come out.

And as far as that single malt stuff, I should have taken notes. We'll have to have that discussion again!

Not going to change the color, just trying do decide between BC/CC or lacquer.

The "discussion" needs to take place with a bottle!
