I started driving in October 1970. If I recall correctly, I paid as low as 25 cents a gallon for gas back then.

I want to say 34 cents a gallon back in the late 60's or early 70's, but it's been a long time. I remember going through two tanks of gas a night in my 1970 SS 396 SS Nova cruising back-and-forth from the McDonald's on Northwest Hwy. in Arlington Hts. to the Scott's Restaurant on Rand Rd. in Mt. Prospect. I also remember waiting in line to get gas during the gas shortage in the 70's.

The lowest I paid was 12.9 cents and Sunoco 240 (highest octane at the time) was 16.9 in the late 50's However, you made $0.50 per hour working after school
