Indy hotel room advice
Looking for advice for where to get a decent hotel in Indy for the Bloomington Gold event at the track. By looking at a map of where the hotels are located in relation to the event, they are all over the place around the track, but none at the track. Is there a more Vette/ people friendly area than others? Plainfield, Lawerance, Zionsville, Indy, airport? Being from Chicago, I know there are better areas than others and some you wouldn't want to be near at all. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Heading down there with a group and I have the task of getting the hotel. Thanks

All the decent hotels will be at the I465 exits on the west side from 86th street down to the airport expressway (exit at the OLD airport).
However, be aware that up till last year, the track would host the Hot Rod Nationals, and 3000 street rodders would use this stretch of hotels and historically, every year, about 3-4 would get stolen.
I suppose there are a few low end ones closer to the track, but location is even more iffy around the track.
A little farther away (like 30 min. from the track) is a corridor of nice hotels on US 31 just north of the I465 in the Carmel area that would be very safe for nighttime parking. But then I'm biased because we live there

Thanks for the info, very helpful. I was hoping for some local info for where to go. 3 or 4 out of 3000 isn't bad, rather hear 0 issues but, chit happens. The people I'm going with would rather have a little drive, a friendlyer place and not have to worry about BS. Thanks again and I might hit you up, when I pick a place, for your opinion.

When I hit Google Earth for hotels, hardly any show up along that corridor of US31 north of the interstate 465 loop. Must be because they don't pay Google to advertise. But you can see them on "street view"
but there are at least 1/2 dozen starting at 103 rd st (interstate is at 96th st) ranging from Holiday inn, Residence Inn, Comfort Inn right at the main interchange
Just north of 116 th st and US31 is a row of them, Spring Hill Suites, Marriott, Renaissance, Hampton
All of them close to some good restaurants right at the main interchange of I465 and US 31. Try Daddy Jacks, Kona Grille, Granite City right there.
Up a little farther north at 126th is another group of restaurants, near the Meijer store complex. Stacked Pickle, Brockway Pub, Max & Ermas(next to Hampton)
And if you are a little adventurous, drive about 5 min. into Old Town Carmel Arts and Design District, go on foot for about 4 blocks of good restaurants and art galleries to break up the vette activities.
As you said, when you get a bead on a hotel, let me know and I can fill you in on whats close by.

Camel is a cool, high class area for sure! I was just up there last weekend at the Clay Terrace mall with my GF. The shopping and the restaurants are wonderful. I would have to believe the hotels would be about as nice and secure for vette parking as one could expect.
I would be hesitant to stay anywhere near the track, as that area is rather seedy.
Another area outside the Indy loop would be the Plainfield area. It is not as nice as Carmel, but has many hotels and restaurants, is on the southwest side of Indy closer to the track and mostly away from the questionable areas of Indy.
While I am sad about BG moving from Champaign, I can certainly understand why they moved. That location for the past two years (with all the construction mess) was not very conducive to such an event. I am happy they selected a site that is still convenient for me.

The track isn't located in the best part of town. At least hotel row in Champaign near the Mall was better.
The N / NW side of Indy tends to be a little better. I'll be at the Indy Marriott North. Better area, better restaurants...
Probably a 30 minute ride to the track, but well worth it IMHO. I've been staying in this part of town for 20+ years.

The south side is decent, also. (Southport, Greenwood)
Lots of new hotels down here. (Holiday Inn, Hilton, Hampton Inn)
As a general rule, I feel good about almost anywhere outside of I-465 and stay away from anything inside of it. (Especially the East side)
Every Saturday night at "The Suds" in downtown Greenwood, is one of the best hotrod/car cruise-ins around. They even have a "Corvette Corner", too.

Hilton Garden off County Line on the SE side should be good...close to I65 which will take you right up to the exit to get to the track.
