Do you wait until the road salt is washed away from the roadways?
I've always had the tendency to wait until the road salt is gone. A couple of good and heavy spring downpours does it for me before I take the car out after winter storage. Do some of you out here in the mid-west feel the same way? Or am I just being **** about it?

Normally yes but the roads are pretty clean to me. Had my car out for a week now...

I was tempted to take it out yesterday. However, it hasn't rained in a while. I'm still seeing salt in the median so I decided to wait it out.

The dirty roads on a new car with a little left over salt powder is not going t make any difference at all in the great scheme of things (but most **** car guys wait for that first couple of rains).
I have literally put on 500 miles on my 2009 Viper since last Saturday but my old school, all metal, 67 Camaro will not be out until the roads are a little cleaner. With 1 to 3 inches coming over night that will be melted by the afternoon tomorrow I hope we don't get a fresh salting.

My car is a year round daily driver. I get it washed regularly and rely on quality of materials and engineering. I'd rather get enjoyment out of what I paid for than worry about wear and tear.

Yes, I wait for a couple of good rains to wash the salt/cinders away before I get my car out in the spring. Hopefully the rain will come soon.

Salt pebbles
Around Chicago there was so much salt put down ( tough winter )
that my concern is not the salt dust but the salt pebbles. There are
spots that are like gravel patches.

Safety Car
My 87 Corvette when I had it (owned from 2006-2011) was immaculate underneath. Not even any surface rust where I expected it. It wasn't even driven in the rain in it's ownership other than getting stuck maybe once or twice a year.
II was able to change a fuel filter in minutes, remove thin crappy fasteners like I'd just used a tap and die on the nut and stud to make it that smooth. For a car I'd keep a long time, I'd definitely recommend avoiding even the tiny bit of spring salt.
I daily drive my Jaguar XJR in the salt and snow, and luckily my rustproofing looks like it's working great (ATF sprayed on with a chemical sprayer). But it will eventually rust. My XKR gets the special treatment and the underside looks fantastic. I think I'll own that one until a 2010 XKR Convertible in mint shape can be had for $20-25k.

With this end of March snow storm we are getting in Chi-town right now I am surprised to see minimal snow plows out in the western suburbs, and doesn't seem like much salting is going on.
Maybe the Municipalities are trying to save money knowing all this white crap is going to melt in the next few days. BUT, often times when 5 to 6 inches of snow melts quickly it acts like a good rainfall.
If nothing else, wishful thinking.

There were plows all over Chicago streets today, is there an election or something coming up.

Back in the day yes I'd wait, Now not so much..... We have such long cold winters, any chance I have to drive I do As long as the roads are clear and dry I'll take the GS out, ZR is grounded due to tires and cold.
Even after a rain there is a bunch of road grit so just be careful and enjoy
