I Need A Shop
Hello all, new to this forum. Just picked up a 99 frc and need to get the clutch done in the car like 2 weeks ago. I'm trying find good shops in the Chicago Milwaukee area. I'm directly in the middle of both. I've searched and cant find any up to date lists of good shops. So far I have called:
Blackdog-->$880 in labor for just the clutch suggested a RPS twin disc
Speed inc--> $550 in labor for just the clutch suggested a ls7
Straightline(no answer voicemail full)
Sound Performance--> $1000-1200 in just labor didn't give a suggestion
Bill Stasek Chevy--> $1200-1500(corvette tax imo) stopped him before it went any further
What are the others to look into?

Speed Inc did the LS7 clutch in my 99 coupe a few years back. They also did my cam and tune. Very happy with them. They will always have my business.

right now blackdog and speed inc are where I'm going. Blackdog is winning only because they can get the car in before September 11th. Anyone used a mcleod rst? I've read a ton about them and everyone seems to love them.

I did mine myself in the garage on jackstands. I refuse to pay anyone to F#&k up something I am capable of f#^%ing up all by myself! Took about 10 hours the first time & about 8 the second. I didnt like the clutch I put in the first time.
That said, I would give Kevin at Libertyville call.

First off, I'm always amazed at the lack of quality Corvette shops in the Chicagoland area. I mean for an area so large as ours, it always amazes me with the lack of quality shops and then the arguments for or against the same shops that always pop up. Heck there seems to be more quality Porsche and European shops for those guys then options we have.
Anyways, I went with Blackdog myself for a clutch and have been happy with the work. Joel orginially suggested RPS for me as well, but based on my personal car and goals for it in the near future, he recommended that I stay with the stock LS6 clutch then. Also talk to them about their drive shaft couplers while they're in there. I went with one solid and one with the rubber and have been happy with it. Also, whoever you go with, have them install a remote bleeder for the clutch fluid. Makes changing the fluid so much easier and you get away from the stupid turkey baster.
The only thing I disliked about them, is I had RIDS (Random Isolated Deeper Scratches) after getting the car back from them. I'm someone super **** about keeping these out of my paint and I had to buff them out once I got the car back. If you're not as **** as me with the paint, then don't think twice about taking the car to them.
