Default Chicago NW burbs garage heat recommendation

I'm looking to install a gas heater in my garage before winter. Was wondering if anybody here has any recommendations or referrals for companies you used before I start just cold calling for quotes. I'm located in Volo.

If you know anyone in the area, please let me know, thanks!

You have several options. You can get a ceiling hung furnace or a thru the wall direct vent furnace. Either you will need a gas or electric supply and for a gas unit a electric supply for the fan. The ceiling mount units require a thru the roof vent were as the wall units vent through the wall. You can buy the units through Grainger. The rest a good plumber and electrican should be able to get you connected. I have put these in my houses for years. My current home has hot water heat in the slab. So far this has been the warmest garage ever!

I'm in Wauconda and I used All Temp. If you want to check out their work send me a PM and I'll contact you.

I had a modine hot dawg, it lasted 10 years, only used 4 months a year, clean environment and the expensive combination gas valve on it failed, it wasn't a good payback. Picked up a 80k btu Mr. Heater Big Maxx last year about this time for $400 out the door at Lowes. That was a sale price and 10% off for opening and putting on their store charge. Knock on wood good heater and quieter than the Modine. Spent a few more dollars on sheet metal to hook up to old exhaust and removed the flex line the prior owner had and hard piped it. Had to have a neighbor help me hang the unit, getting old, couldn't do on my own. Not sure if that will help you or not but it is what I spent.

Depending on now often you plan on using sometimes the lower cost and install cost of electric is worthwhile

I've gotten 3 quotes so far, ranging from $1700-$2200 installed for a 30k BTU unit. The cheap quote was for Modine, expensive was for Lenox. Gas and electric lines are no more than 10 ft from where I want it mounted.

I plan on having it run all winter to keep my garage temp around 50-55 consistently

Why stop at just heat???

I have a cousin into Vettes and Harleys. Insulated and drywalled his garage and added a Mitsubishi combo heater/ac. Ran about $3800 or so.

Warm in the winter, cool in the summer!!

I'm in an interior unit townhouse with 2 car attached (front and 1 side wall exposed) with a cheap overhead door. I have an electric heater rated a few btu more than required. The heater was around $500 and It costs about $50/month if I keep it around 50 degrees.
