Thinking about attending 2016 Indy 500
I would like to attend Indy this year. It is the 100th running. I haven't attended since 1994. Looking for advice from other Vette owners. There doesn't seem to be any kind of Vette corral like there is at Sebring or the Detroit GP. I am looking for hotel, parking, tail gating, or traffic advice. I will be driving in from either the Detroit or Cincinnati area.

First race in 1963, went to the race every year from 66 to 2010, then gave up my tics. Just got tired of the all day hassle. We always came in from the north side, I65 to Lafayette Rd to Georgetown and got to the track pretty quick.
Hotels (decent) around the 465 loop would be booking up pretty quick even now I suspect, so you may have to stay out about 10-15 mi. away.
One thing, once you get tics and get parked, don't wait too long to enter and get to your seat. Lately, with security searching carry-ins, it could take an hour to move 100 ft. thru a ticket taking entrance. Past couple of years, lot of people were PO'd trying to get in and they missed the 15-20 min pre-race build up to throwing the green flag (which is best part of the show in my opinion)
Have fun, it will be a great show

Entering the grounds was much better last year. They added a lot of stations. We had almost no line.

Some friends of mine are going in from out of town for the race and they are staying at a new hotel in Noblesville on the NE corner of Indy. It is a growing area called Hamilton Town Center and is very good area and very nice hotel about 20 minutes from the track. There is a lot of nice shops and places to eat right by the hotel. They said they got a very good rate, sorry i don't remember the na,e however I could go by there and see.
They do not have Corvette specific parking however they do have Chevy appreciation days the 2 Saturdays before the race and the dealers give out passes to people that have bought Corvette's and Camaro's. You get laps around the track and they feed you. Not sure if out of state dealers can get the passes for you.

I was able to get a room in Indianapolis for Friday, May 27th (Carb Day), but couldn't find any vacancies for Saturday night. I had planned on staying Saturday night and driving home on Sunday morning. I'm guessing that if you try to make reservations now you'll have to find a place away from Indianapolis.

New Pal is a neat area. It is just about 10 minutes or so straight south of me. A lot of my employees live in that area and love it. Have fun at the track.

I would not suggest staying at a hotel very close to the track anyways. The area around the track and the hotels within that area are not exactly upscale.
The hotels on county line road on the south side right off I65 are nice, I 65 will give you a straight shot up to the 30th street exit which will take you west right to the track. Stay away from Georgetown and 16th street if at all possible. On the way out they will reverse the flow of traffic on 30th to get you back to I65 so you can shoot south again. I normally try to park near 30th and Patricia.

Indy 500 is now officially sold out. Even someone showing up just to get a general admission ticket for the infield will NOT get in.
on positive note I can now watch it live since Indianapolis is now no longer blacked out

sold out at least for the first time in modern times. There are 237,000 permanent seats, they added grandstands and suites this year and another 75,000 gen admission crazies in the infield, thats around 350,000 coming in. Will be nuts on traffic when the race is over.

Attended the Indy 500 this year. What a crowd, what a race, oh did I mention my nephew, Charlie Kimball, finished 5th this year. Best way to attend if you know a driver, we, my brother father in law of the driver, were able to enter everywhere and my niece made us breakfast in his motor home they stayed in. All parts of the total Indy event were open to us and was able to sit with about 500 fans of his at race and at parade. Also attended the Indy Awards Banquet where the checks are passed out. Here's a pic of the first winners car from 1911 on display at dinner.

Well I started this thread and I got very lucky. I found 2 tickets on Detroit Craigslist last Thursday and the guy did not gouge me. Found a hotel in Fishers, Indiana at midnight Friday. Drove to the hotel on Saturday and had a fantastic time at the race on Sunday.
