Wel, It Happened .... an Accident!
Let me start by saying that it could have been A LOT worse.
Last Sunday I was traveling north on 294, just cruising along in the left lane following traffic. Previously, I had noticed this Ford Explorer screaming up the far right lane weaving in and out of traffic. Then I lost sight of him. Probably 5-10 minutes later, I see him again in the right lane and he quickly darts into the center lane where I thought he was going to stay, but NO, he keeps driving right into the left lane and me, pushing me off the road and into the center concrete barrier.
It looked like he was just going to keep driving, so I followed him and he finally pulled over. What happened on the side of the road will be another story for a different day - but the guy was a complete AHole.
So I feared for the worst, but when I got out of the car, there was surprisingly little damage for what seemed to be a pretty hard hit. The main damage was only to my left rear wheel (pics below). I would have bet money that my left rear panel was all crunched up. Where he slid into me on my right side resulted in some damage to my side mirror and some door damage. No doubt the plastic gave and took the blow and bounced back, with (hopefully) just a couple of paint chip/damage spots that hopefully can be easily fixed - but a body shop can look to see if there's more than my eye can see.
So, my main reason for posting is not for sympathy, but for recommendations for a body shop that is good for paint repair, and also for wheel repair. I called Wheel America in Elk Grove Village but they wanted to just powedercoat the wheels rather than bring them back to OEM polished wheels, otherwise they said that would take 3-4 weeks to do. I'd like them back to original.
So, what are recommendations?

Let the insurance company purchase a new wheel, you don't want a refinished one. Push the insurance company for a diminished value settlement, this will affect long term value. I have seen cars with less damage have minor frame damage. I would have a good shop check the frame specs, and the suspension for any damage. I would suggest Larry @ Auto Art 847-724-1100 3124 W Lake St. Glenview, IL. They are a high end repair & customization shop. If you have any questions text or call.

Brad, did this happen driving back from your "getting out of the house" cruse to the Tire Rack? That sucks.
Driving to and from the event, I saw 3, very, very bad accidents. One going on 294S and two coming home on 80-90W. Dick wings driving like idiots really mess it up for folks. Made the sign of the cross at all three, bad.
Like Tom said, a new wheel will cover that issue. You want to make sure they check your inner fender and tub for issues.
Sorry to hear about this , but at least your ok, that is what matters.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Good thing that you were not injured.
I too would push for a brand new wheel from the insurance company. Can't help you with a body shop recommendation though since I do not know the area.

Sorry to here about the accident, but glad you're okay. After a recent drive on 294 I learned several things;
1. If you're not going 15-20 mph over the speed limit, you get run over.
2. They apparently don't put turn signals on new cars anymore. I've never seen so many people darting in and out of traffic without signaling in my life.
3. Large trucks are no longer bound to drive in the 2 outside lanes. It seems that they drive in any lane they choose at any speed.
4. Most new cars apparently aren't equipped with Bluetooth. Isn't it illegal to talk on a hand held cell phone while driving in Illinois?
5. If you drive the posted speed limit in a construction zone, you get run over.
6. I was taught that you leave one car length between your car and the car in front of you for every 10 mph. If you try to leave 2-3 car lengths, someone will get between you. I guess people think newer cars can stop on a dime at 75-80 mph.
Yup, I'm getting old and crotchety!

Brad don't under stand what you want for your wheel the factory wheel you have is painted not polished so powder coating would give you the same color you have or do you want to have all your wheels polished ???

John,
I mainly want a shine to the wheels. I think powder coating won't have the shine as a polished look. Any other ideas?

Brad, I don't see you for a while and this is what you get in to!!! JK of course. I am just glad there was not more damage.
So I had a minor incident, less dramatic in the Challenger.. I was driving in a parking lot here in Schaumburg.. this A-hole comes out of nowhere.. just pull in front of me..I cut hard left, and unfortunately got curb rash from a parking block on the driverside rear wheel I may just try touch up paint, barely scraped it but enough that I can see it .

I used these guys when I got some curb rash on my C6 comp grey wheels. Perfect match.
