My list of threads in OT has shortened to only 20. Should I also try a browser update or has something changed

Go to UserCP, Edit Options and change Number of Posts to Show Per Page. Is that what you're referring to?

There was a version update today to the forum software.

Maybe the Forum update caused the change. Never had to mess with it before

When I set the posts per page I was on the OT home page. I set the number of posts to 50, but not only was the number of threads set for 50, but also the number of posts per page was at 50 inside of a thread. I went inside a thread and reset to 20 posts per page and when I went back the the OT home page, it was at 50 threads per page.

Yes, this was one of the things caused by the software upgrade and not an issue on the member's side.
