Michael (WellAdjusted) Holt
Michael Holt was a member I had the honor of meeting and called my friend. Michael came up to me at my first Cruise In to introduce himself, and to let me know that he had read my replies on the forum, and agreed with my thoughts and opinions (what a smart guy he was )
He also made himself available after Florida suffered two back to back hurricanes in 2004. Michael worked for Allstate on their Catastrophic Team, and he had extensive construction knowledge.
Mike would call me to give advice on repairs to my home, along with ways to deal with my Insurance company.
I remember reading the thread created by "neatnic" concerning a missing member in Las Vegas. When I saw it was Michael, my heart skipped a beat, and I needed to help.
After reading the facts of his absence, I knew something was wrong. With my law enforcement background, I contacted the LVMP to speak to a Detective. At first the Detective told me that 1,000 a month come to Las Vegas to "disappear," so, I had to impress upon him as a brother in law enforcement, there was more to this case, and that he would have to trust me. I gained his support and dealt with him numerous times on a daily basis.
When Michael's rent-a-car was found in the Mohave desert, I contacted and befriended a Deputy Sheriff who went above and beyond what is required.
Through this tragedy, I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Michael's family. I spoke to his Mom, Dad, and friend/ex-wife Abby countless times a day keeping them informed of information I had obtained. With a broken heart, I shared the news of Michael's passing with his mother
I remember crying at my computer when I typed the information that Michael's body was found in the desert.
While this loss can never fully be healed in the heart of a parent, sister, wife or friend, it was a blessing to meet Michaels family and to see the support and outpouring of love from our members of CF.
Michael, you are missed.
May God grant peace and comfort to those you left behind
RIP

That was one hell of an ordeal. I can only imagine the people who were close to him were devistated. In these modern times loved ones are not supposed to get stranded and pass away due to being lost. Such a shame.. but at the same time we all learned much from what took place. With luck, these lessons learned will stick with us until we reach the end of our lives.

Losing Michael was a tragic loss for his family as well as our forum.... I remember when Michael first joined the forum....He IM'ed me asking me questions about this and that.... and I enjoyed getting to know him through the forum and IM's...... I can remember him being so full of energy and life and he described his travels around the US in his corvette.... He often made fun of me for not taking my vette out more and piling the miles up on it and experiencing what they were built for....
I finally got to meet him in person at the cruise in and he solidified all my thoughts about him through IM's.... such an extremely sweet guy....with a huge heart.... a person that you wanted to be around..... Michael will surely be missed by all his friends here on the forum....

Michael was a great friend to me - his passing came as a big shock to all of us.
I carry around the poker chip that was in his suitcase - given to me by his family and Abby.
CI won't be the same w/o him.
We love you Michael

I had the singular honor of designing Mike's memorial bench at the Museum.

When Forum members were calling and faxing missing person flyers to law enforcement agencies and hospitals in the Las Vegas area, Jesse took charge and made sure the efforts to find Michael were being taken seriously.
Here's the thread that kept most of us riveted until Jesse gave us the sad news of Michael's death:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1749914
What started off being about Michael, ended up being about Michael's parents as Jesse stayed in touch with them during the search for Michael and then afterwards as he did what he could to help them deal with their grief:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1788632
Now Michael's parents, "Homey" and "Squirrel," and others in Michael's family have become members of our Forum family as well.

R.I.P., Michael. We'll miss seeing you at CI-IX, but we'll see your folks, we'll be there for the dedication of the memorial bench your Forum family donated and we'll talk about the good memories.

Anyone's passing will forever leave a perpetual scar in the hearts of those left behind. Keeping their memory alive adds to the healing process. I am going through this myself and would just like to share how I cope with my daughter's loss. It's proven therapy for me to continue to talk about her.

I kept all Michael's emails till now. I learned so much of his well spoken English and at times I had to ask him "what does that word mean"? and he thought it was funny but that kept us going on and on in our friendship. Meeting him in person was even better as his personality was easy going and you could depend on him for any time of help weather it was insurance questions, car problems, etc. He was a good listener too. A year ago this June he called me from Vegas as he couldn't come to my competition but he was there in spirit supporting me and wished me the best while I asked him to "win all the $$ so we could elope"! .. we laughed and that's how I remember him .. he lives and he will be there w/me this coming June at same competition!
Michael, we miss you!!

Can't even read this w/o crying.
I think about Michael all the time.
He used to do Tues Poker Nights when he got back into Dallas. He told me he'd bring me to one to see what it's like. That never happened.
I know right now he's watching all of us and laughing at all the good times we all had with him.
We all love and miss you Michael and I look forward to meeting Abby, and your family at CI.

I can't believe what I'm reading. Somehow, I completely missed this. I noticed the memorial bench unveiling on the cruise-in agenda and found myself in complete shock. I remember Michael. He was always very friendly and energetic. I even remember myself crawling underneath his car at the NCM to check his rear differential fluid level.
My sincere belated condolences to his family.
