Default My Project C6 - 350z!

Hello there,

I'm Ian from the UK and have just taken deliver of a C6 2011 engine with 18k on clock with a T56.

The title of the intro thread is somewhat confusing to something which isn't directly linked with a Vette. Why 350z? Because I'm about to commence a journey in the next few months to drop out the VQ35 from my Nissan 350z and replace it with some real muscle.

Why? - The 296bhp block is a great block for mild fun, but whilst residing on the 350z-uk forum for over 4 years now, and the want to drive more power, I fitted Nitrous Oxide with a 75 shot for around 18 months, but found the tediousness with the NOS refills, heating the bottles and the fact the VQ doesn't like too much torque my views changed to SC'ing the Z.

So plans commenced to purchase a nice V2 Vortech, but with this comes a great cost. Importation, additional build parts, and the fact you're driven by the safe limit of around 440bhp at the fly. At this point here you can easily spend around $13k. So if you want to reach higher limits than 440bhp you are left no alternative but to build the engine. Here comes another $13k. Then there's the build quality, the tightness of the SC, heat issues and the like.

This got me thinking, and my original plan was the LSA from the CTS-V, but was seeing a huge cost without seeing a nice increase of power over say the LS3.

Plan D then came up....... why not import a LS3 C6, and look to increase perfection with CAM's, headers and the like. From there depending on how hungry I then feel, to potentially thrown in a SC into the mix.

So the engine is currently sitting at the dock being cleared by customs. My plan is to commence the build in June/July time, but before I get to that point I thought why not chat with the guys who know most about the Vette. Now I know from our own forum, you get the new guy, he asks the dumb questions and they're all sitting there, all you have to do is use the "search" function.

In this case it's a little different as I know the direction I want, it's sort of building knowledge, experience and recommendations and putting them in order of finances and how often certain recommendations keep popping up.

I'll tease you first with the goods......

Total cost for modifications since birth around $18k already, so this next stage is the final stage, so I'd like to make it worth while.

First on the list of questions is as follows: (Please note I'm not hugely high up on the clever list with engine mods, so if you recommend something, just explain why you've given that advice)

1. Recommend me some CAMS

2. Headers

3. Intake (In the preliminary)

4. Anything else

5. Supercharger (I won't be going for a built block, neither turbo, love the sound of a SC over Turbo)

My criteria, increased performance without going full on NA build, with a view to SC in the future.

Tell me if I'm right or wrong, because the V8 is a whole new ball game to me.

Thanks guys in advance for any tips and advice. If all goes well, I'd be happy to start a build thread, that's as long as you guys don't mind me encroaching with a 350z C6 Build.

Ian
