Dad tossed me the keys to his 79! Can't wait to finish his project.
It's the late 90's early 00's and dad decides he wants his dream car. He finds his co-worker who's had a 79 collecting dust and doesn't want to take it with him on the move.
The car is in great condition. No dents or scratches on the body, paint needs a touch up, no rust on the frame at all.
The first thing dad does with it is wet sand it down to fiberglass and repaint the car the original dark blue with a slight metal flake in it. The car looks amazing but he's not happy with the performance
He gets his buddy at the GM dealership to drop a new ZZ4 high output engine into it and while he's there he adds hooker headers, new cam, new clutch and rumble mufflers on the straight back exhaust.
And that's where the work stopped....dad's job made demands of his time (executive of IBM) that he couldn't be there to work on it anymore.
So the car has sat there ever since collecting dust without a cover....
Fast forward to June and I'm home helping dad take care of his farm and notice something's off with his car, I get up under it and check a few things and take a guess about what's wrong and where it would be. Sure enough I'm right (not bad for a computer nerd) and he tells me thanks. Now being a new home owner, he wanted to come see my house in St. Louis and we made plans for my birthday for him to come help me install some power plugs in my house.
July rolls around and my parents are here and we decide to go to a sports bar on my birthday. While we're there my dad says, "Oh yeah before I forget..." reaches in his pocket, and tosses the keys to me. "You've come far son, she's yours now. Keep her under 150."
I still can't believe it, my dad gave me a corvette for my 29th birthday. Not only that but it's a beast of a classic and I intend to pick up where he left off and finish the restoration and customization of this beast.
Truth be told, dad did go out and buy a Mercedes sports car to fill the hole in the garage.

Le Mans Master
Welcome from another young owner of a 1972 C3, funny thing is that there is a white 2014 SLK350 EDP(European delivery-picked it up from the factory in Germany) parked next to it.
I am restoring my '72. My dad gave me mine for my 15th birthday, so I can relate you in more ways than not.
Happy birthday!
