Even if you don't use the halogen lights (which draw more current than the originals) these old cars just build up resistance in the wiring and connectors over the years and so two things happen: 1) you have less voltage at the headlights (meaning they are dimmer), and, 2) you build up so much heat that the thermal circuit breaker inside the headlight switch starts 'strobing' the lights...usually on high beam. One (the best) fix is to just install two 12V relays so the headlight switch only has to activate the relays (VERY low current) and the relays carry the current load. This is what I and many others have done...lights are brighter, no strobing, safer and don't need to change the wiring or switch.
