I've flown small airplanes in the NYC area for years. That morning, my wife called me to tell me that some nut had just flown a small plane into one of the towers. Great, I thought. That'll screw it up for all the rest of us now.
My office was on the 18th floor and faced south. I looked out of the window and saw the tower on fire with smoke pouring out. I told her it was no small plane by the looks of things. I walked down the hall to get a difference perspective and when I entered my co-workers office he was white as a ghost. He said he just saw another one hit the south tower.
Here's what I posted that day: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...24&postcount=2

I will never forget that awful day, or the brave souls who perished. I had the honor and privilege to work with several of them over the years and I will always remember these incredible human beings. May they Rest in Eternal Peace after a job well done.
I will never forget the sacrifice that the Fathers, Mothers, Husbands, Wives, Sisters, Brothers, Sons, and Daughters of these Heroes made and I will remain eternally grateful to them. I remember contemplating their sacrifices as I stood at attention at too many funerals, and I'm often reminded of them when I look at my own children.
I remember the sights, sounds and smells at the WTC site vividly. All the pictures in the world couldn't accurately portray the devastation at that crime scene. I've had the opportunity to see more than my share of horrific sights in my time and nothing even begins to come close to what I saw on that day, and the days after.
I will always remember the brave Men and Woman who are putting themselves in harms way both at home and abroad so that the rest of us can sleep peacefully tonight. Thank You! May God bless you and watch over you and return you safely to your families at the end of your tour.

The heroes that emerged on that day are countless and mostly nameless. The men and women that are fighting our fight far from home ... I salute you.
God Bless the cops, the firefighters and all those that stepped forward and unselfishly gave their all. God Bless our troops that have continued the fight. Our world has changed forever.

I remember, all to well, those early days when we all came together as a nation. It saddens me to no end to see that we have made a 180 degree turn around from those days. Our passion and camaraderie has turned to apathy and complacency.
By the way, Ed, I'm not ashamed to say that seeing that video made me cry again.

I was on the Sprain Brook Parkway on my way to work. I was listening to the radio when they said Holy Sh*t a plane just flew into the towers. I was like wow the guy must have fallen asleep - how do you miss the Twin Towers!! I called Anthony - he was only my fiance then - we were getting married in a few months. He worked a few blocks away - I got his voice mail. I left him a message - he called me back and then I didn't hear from him after the second plane hit - he was in a gov't building - what happened? I couldn't get thru anymore. Cell phones weren't working at that point - all I had was a radio and listening. Oh my GOD we are under attack!! My sister is in Manhattan - My finace is there!! My best friend worked across the street!! Then the Pentegon was hit - I left work after the first tower fell - I ran to my daughter's school - there were fighter jets flying over Yonkers protecting NYC. How do you explain what is going on to a 10 year old? She didn't know what a cold war was or what terrorists were. Mommy what's happening? I drove home still nothing from Anthony or my sister or my best friend. I looked over to the City which I could clearly see from here. All I saw was black smoke.
I was lucky - I didn't personally know anyone that perished that day. I knew we would never be the same.
I will never forget - I will always remember. I will always cry on September 11th. I cried on that day for the last 5 years. Tomorrow I will cry again - 20 years from now I will still cry on that day.
God bless those that died, those that are dying, those that have lost and those that were injured. Those that protect us here and overseas, you are supported. You are remembered.

Thanks for posting that, Nuky. Powerful pictures and eloquent words. The shame of it all is that both have slipped into the realm of obscurity ... and that is a tragedy unto itself.
On this, the sixth anniversary of the cowardly attacks on our nation, I pray to God that the good people of this nation wake up and smell the coffee.
God Bless the USA.

Watch, listen and read. Does watching this make you as mad as it makes me? Does this really **** you off? Don't you want to just kill some people ... the way they just killed us? THIS is why we are where we are ... remember that!

I agree with Bob, 6spd98, everytime I look at the spot in the skyline my mood goes south....it's like a wound that won't heal.

my wife and I took our honeymoon the week before we got married. We were on a cruise from NYC to Bermuda. On the way home Karen said we need to get up early and take a picture of NYC as we came in to dock.
We took the picture with twin towers standing tall. Little did I realize that 2 weeks later they would be gone.
When I think back to the day of the picture I get mad at myself because I didnt want to get up and take a picture of something I see everyday. Now when I look at the picture I remind myself not to take anything for granted because tomorrow it may be too late.
