Vettes run wild on LIE
This Sunday a reckless band of Corvetters was subdued by Suffolk County’s finest along the LIE. It was reported that were traveling in excess of 60 mph and changing lanes at will, endangering innocent travelers along their path of wanton mayhem.
After a careful check of all 15 or so Corvettes by no less than 4 patrol cars, 5 of the offenders were found to be guilty of that #1 threat to public safety and security….NO FRONT PLATE!
Thank to SCPD for their diligence, I for one feel a lot safer on the roads of America knowing that these youths ( OK youths in the 50’s and 60’s) have been corralled!

I was there also but I have a front plate to avoid these types of situations. I also was told by the officer that they received calls about corvettes were weaving in and out. This was definitely not true as we started off in the right lane after leaving the rest stop and gradually merged orderly into the middle lane. We weren't even going that fast since I kept hitting my brakes. The most dangerous event was caused by the Suffolk PD trying to get the 19 corvettes off to the side of the road with 4 patrol cars. Two of them came over from the HOV lane almost causing an accident and resulting in a significant backup. I guess Suffolk needs the money. We were definitely targeted on this one. I have been in many caravans over the years and most recently to Bowling Green with hundreds of corvettes and never ran into anything like this.Welcome to LI!

Something seems fishy about this.I've been in a few caravans myself and, the po po usually leave you alone if you are obeying the rules of the road. Seems to me this is just Suffolk County separating you from your money.

What exit did you guys get on and what exit did the SCPD manage to get 4 patrol cars to pull you over? Were you traveling east or west?

I wasn't part of this, but I was pulled over last Friday on the LIE around 10am heading west around exit 59. Guess what for? No front plate and tinted windows. I'm surprised he bothered with be because I was traveling at 60mph in the middle lane and when I saw him I rolled down my windows so he could see that there was no "threat". Just a 24 year old in a shirt and tie driving to work.

How they amassed 4 cars in such a short time is curious indeed, like mafvette said, we just got on at 52 heading East, and by 56 we were pulled over. We were heading for some wine country touring and dinner and driving rather slowly in the middle lane.

What's the cost of no front plate ticket? Any points for that?

Thank goodness someone is keeping us safe from the "no front plate rebels", lawless, wreckless, selfish, disregard for human life drivers. Lawmakers have spent countless hours contemplaing the safety effect of having a front plate, and these self serving corvette drivers who take it upon themselves to disregard the law and cause otherwise busy patrol officers to cause near accidents and risk their own lives and corral them and issue tickets. The officers are pulled from other more pressing safety issue like writing inspection violation tickets, seat belt tickets, and possibly speeding tickets to have to deal with these front plate violators. I commend the officers for their diligence and professionalisim, no one was beat or shot. (I was once issued a no front plate ticket after being pursued by two patrol cars for one block doing 25mph in a 30mph zone where the missing front plate was properly deemed a public safety hazard)

That's absurd!!!
Not sure how they come up with the amounts for these fines, I always thought it was ~ $50 in NJ but now on the DMV site it says "fine not exceeding $100." I know NY is far worse in that regard.

Last year on my way to Watkins Glen I was driving on Rt 17 through lovely Johnson City (remember that name if you're ever in the area) when i was pulled over for doing XX in a 55. Everywhere east of west of that town the speed limit is 65. So he tells me how fast I was going and says "Doesn't Jersey require a front plate?" So he tells me that if my license comes back clean he'll just give me a ticket for no plate. Now I'd make that trade every time!! And $158 later i still don't put the front plate on. Oh yeah $23 of that was a "convenience fee" for them allowing you to pay via snail mail!!

Huh... Guess I'm glad I missed that run to the Winery... no plate.. no joy. It seems that LIPD's are very sensitive to the front plate issue. I've never run with one (Westchester based) and I've never been cited even when already pulled over. They really need to understand the car really doesn't have a spot for a front plate.. you know??

I have a CT Veteran plate on my C6. Front has nada.
Many will follow to see out of state, then back off.
I'd def. run a front plate here in NY if I was reg. here.
Can't beat city hall.

Fwiw,
There was a group of exotics that were doing 100plus stints that would roll out from the city.
That went over like a fart in Church, LIE LEO have been briefed to look for any potential naredowellers and target.
My Corvette brothers fall into this target.
