Default Help with old black and white New York photo

Wondering if some New York City forum members could help me out with a non Corvette question?
The family rediscovered some old black and white images of my great grandmother.
Family folklore say’s that they were taken at the 1939 Worlds Fair in New York City.

Does anyone recognize the location and what appears to be a lighthouse in the image, and if it is located in New York City?

Any help would be much appreciated

Did some more searching of old lighthouse images, and it looks like the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse to me.
Wrong city ….. so much for family folklore

At least there was a Worlds Fair in Chicago in 1933-34, so maybe that part is right

Sorry .. well maybe someone will find this amusing

Same spot

What a great photo find ! Interesting to compare the two shots from maybe thirty years apart. They changed the railing, added flowers, but kept the same benches. Oh; and they painted the lighthouse.

I don't believe they are the same. I'd keep searching.

I have been digging thru boxes and boxes of old images and found a few from the 1933 World Fair in Chicago, so pretty sure we found the right place.
Seeing it’s the Corvette Forum, here she is in front of the GM Pavilion in the fair

Just throwing my 2c worth in here...

If the photos of the Chicago World's Fair pique anyone's interest, pick up the book Devil in the White City by Erik Larsen. It's a really good read...a murder mystery set against the backdrop of the World's Fair. Even though it's fiction, it's based on real circumstances and there's lots of interesting facts about the event.

You must be very disappointed to find out your families from Chicago instead of the Big Apple
