Recommendation for inspection shop in MD
Hello all,
My wife and I recently purchased a house in Germantown, MD. We moved up from TN and need to switch over driver's license and also vehicle plates. My corvette has not cats, since TN did not have any emission/vehicle inspections.
Any recommendations on a mechanic's shop that could help me out with the corvette?
Or any good shops to get our other vehicles thru inspection?
Thanks for the help.

What year is your Corvette?
20 years or older can get historic tags. However they changed the rules last year, post '85 cars still need to be inspected but are not subject to emissions testing.
Maryland State Police are pretty harsh on inspectors that bend the rules.
You will be hard pressed to find one that will look the other way on missing cats.

If you are lucky someone will PM you the name of an inspector that will take care of you. I would not however hold my breath.
The good news is that once you get it through initial inspection you are free to muck with it as Maryland as no annual safety inspection.
Emissions inspection is every other year but pretty much if there is no check engine light on you pass. There are even self-serve emissions kiosks available 24/7.
Good luck.

Welcome to Columbia neighbor! You might want to call Sport Chevrolet just south of Columbia on RT29 in Silver Spring, MD and ask to speak to their Corvette Tech, Frank Steiner. He has over 40 years experience in servicing all years and flavors of Corvettes. Been taking our Corvettes to him for 19 years. Honest and very knowledgeable. Good luck!
PS: The mods and how they affect the emissions will be the tricky part.

talk to Fran above post above you ,. he knows all about getting cars taken care with inspections and all...
If I re-call correctly when My wife switched license from DE to MD she wasnt required to get car inspected to transfer since it had current stickers from other state with same owner.... that maybe same thing with you,,, If you do require inspection they may or may not do a visual on the cats,.. YET they dont run actuall emmissions test til a 2 year period is up....
