Default Want to start racing or improve your racing skills?

Just thought I'd post up the upcoming SCCA driver's school at Thunderhill on Feb 24-26. You can get a racing competition license at this school and advance your track skills to the next level. If you don't yet have a fully prepped race car, you can rent one for the school. SCCA is a great organization with very good racing. The racing is fun, but even more fun is hanging out with all the other racers before and after the race.

You can also get a competition license through NASA but it's a different program. You will need to progress through their hpde 4 program and then get tested for a competition license. NASA also offers time trials which are a great way to compete without getting a full race car and safety equipment. John (JRL) has been kicking butt in time trials for a while now in his C5Z and he got me started with nasa. If you have any questions he's the man to ask.

Also don't forget about the Corvette Challenge series with Speed Ventures where you can meet a bunch of other corvette drivers at the track and compete in a friendly time trial series.

Since I'm the only T1 racer in Norcal I have been traveling south to join the other 10+ T1 racers in Cal Club. Here are my first two Touring 1 races of 2012 at Cal Speedway. The first is a regional race and the next is my first national race.

2012 ACS Regional: (3rd place finish)

2012 ACS National: (1st place finish)

My next race will be a double national event at WSIR big track on Feb 24/25. It will be my first time to this famous track. After that on March 10/11 will be a double national at Thunderhill. Hopefully some of you will join me in the future! We need more corvettes out there especially in NorCal.

Bill.

You don't know what you are missing until you finally decide to go to the Track. You don't have to have any experience, you don't have to race, you don't even need a car. Like "redtopz" said, just come hang out with us. Next thing you know you get to ride with someone.
We have cars to rent. We have instructors. There are instructor all over the place that will ride with you in your car. Any level you want, it is there. Thunder Hill is a great first time track. Very forgiving.
At 5 o'clock, when the track closes, the folding chairs and refreshments come out. Bench racing starts. Come join us. All of us.
At the track we are one.
By the way, our track ready ZO6 is our most popular rental now. Save your tires and use ours. See you there.

I agree with everything Bill says about the SCCA. I was a SCCA member for 20 years and a teacher at their schools for 8 years. They they are very well run and a lot of fun. Looks like they have cut them from 4 days to 3 which helps on the expenses. Your instructors are not getting paid and are doing it because they love the sport and enjoy helping new people get involved and try and make it a great experience. This also applies to all of the various workers that are needed to run an event succesfully. If you are not sure about going out and doing wheel to wheel racing with you car, Borelli Motorsports sounds like a great option. I have seen people buy race cars and equipment, come to the drivers school and then find out they don't really like as much as they thought they would.
