Default DMV Personal Plates California

Got my personal plates yesterday after waiting little over 2 months. Kinda pist off how it turn out. Got the letters right, it is the spacing that they mess up on. Suppose to look like what I order on the DMV web site. This 9/11 tribute plate, only has 6 numbers or letters. I had 2 letters on the left side and then a space then three on the right side. Well they put first 2 letters along the edge of the plate like i wanted, but put the three letters starting in the middle so there a big gap on the right side, was suppose to be even on both side of the edge of the plate. Not sure if DMV will make me new plate, but they should, it's there screw up. Cost me $98 to get done and $78 each year additional. The first pic how I order it, the second picture what I got, don't like the big gap on the right side. I know it says on the web site won't be exactly position as picture but the Z06 should be at the edge of the right side, like the VR is on the left side.

What do you expect from convicted felons.

Not the brightest bunch.

I am assuming that the plates are still made by convicts.

My plate came back with uneven indentation also.

Did you just keep the plates or did you take it back?

Kept them, I am one letter short of full usage.

I wanted it to be centered and is a space to the left strong. I think that maybe they can not 1/2 space which is what mine would require. But I really do not know. Gotta figure the machine has to be very user friendly considering the environment it is in.

Take it back and see what they say. After all it is not what is represented on the form.

When you do your personalized plates online you can either choose a half space or full space. But can't have more than one full space between the letters or numbers.

What someone told me, that I think what happen to my plate is California plates usually take seven letters or numbers. Well this plate I got is the 9/11 memorial plate and only take six numbers or letters. So it look like they ran the machine as normal that why there a space there on the right side, so it put a blank space there since there was no letter or number. Someone who makes the plate screwed up.

My 9/11 plates came back with the wrong spacing too. I only have 5 chars and spacing to make it centered and they blew it.

I went in to the local office and had to "help" the DMV person enter the spacing correctly... took her 10 minutes of me instructing her.

If it bugs you and you go in they will eventually fix it for you.

So did they offer you new plates? I think that this plate only holds six numbers or letters and the normal seven numbers or letters they screw up on spacing.

Yeah, they fixed it. I believe the solution was the first char is a space and then I have a half space in the middle. With the full space in the middle it was not coming out aligned on the actual plate.

If you look at the pic, that how I sent it in. The VR on the edge but Z06 is not, even though the six is in the last place. How is your plate done?

Yeah, mine looked fine on the computer too. With yours as it is now you have the space between the R and Z. with mine I would have a 1/2 space there and a full space as the first, pushing the V to the second spot. After dealing with the DMV woman so long we gambled with that solution and it worked out.

Here's how mine turned out:

The thing that sucks is their disclaimer on the site that the spacing may not match on the actual plate.... Hey, this isn't the 15th century and typesetting isn't rocket science.

I like how yours came out, but I be happy if they move the Z06 one over so edges are the same on both sides I be happy. So is there someone at the DMV that I should talk too our just go there.

You could driving them up to Folsome Prison and make a complaint with the CO's. I doubt that would go over well, no seriousley I think it looks ok but hell try to get DMV to redo them.

I accepted the mistake as better then having to deal with the DMV and wait months again.

Well I see what happen Friday when I go back to DMV. Hope it's painless, made appointment. I don't mind waiting as long as it comes out the way I want. See what happen, never had to deal with this before. The last Vette that I had personal plates came out fine, but also was a standard plate that accepted seven numbers or letters.
