Default oil filter question

I went to Wal-Mart the other day to purchase an oil filter. I wanted to buy a PF-48, I couldn't locate one. Instead, I stumbled across a (AC DELCO) PF-48E. Does the PF-48E replace the 48? If so, what does the "E" stand for? BTW, they are just under $4.00 if anyone's interested. Thanks for your help clarifying this.

The "E" designates an E-core filter... It has to do with the internal tube/cage that is inside the filter that supports the filter media. It is a plastic material with large openings. Some people say they are fine, some avoid them like the plague. Myself, I avoid them and use the original PF48 with the metal tube..

After looking at the 2 side by side I try to avoid them. It's slightly smaller than the original filter and it looks/feels cheaper.

Buy one of each and cut them open to see for yourself.
Then share some pics of what you find.
