You will get a bunch if opinions on tuners for sure.

I my self and most all guys in iur group use rick at synergy.
One of if not the best tuner in the area. He has a lot if work so if your gonna have one done set up an appointment with him ASAP.
You can do a search on this forum and see all the support he has on here.

I will assume that you know the difference between a "street" tune and a dyno tune. The best is the dyno. For a street tune, the tuner plugs in his laptop and runs the car around getting some data log numbers and changes parameters in the tune and drives it around again. Chances are you are not going to get any WOT log numbers.

Rick seems to be the best one out there for the C5 and up.

If your car is stock you don't need a tune. But if you modify it then I would recommend Rick at Synergy in Livermore. He uses a load bearing dyno which performs a complete tune. A dyno jet is pretty much just for full throttle tuning. Street tuning is not practical at all.

Well it depends on your location and street access. If you can go through the whole range of throttle positions over and over again then it's fine. But that's not practical in many locations with traffic, stop lights, pedestrians, etc. That's all I mean. Much easier on a dyno. Plus you have to find a tuner that wants to drive your car around on the street and tune it. Again, not real practical for most people.

I also have to disagree

My cars is close to stock and rick gave me an awesome time. Added about 36 hp and tweaked my trans shifts and throttle Worth the money for sure.

There are other companies that make load bearing dynos including but not limited to Dynojet.

IMO a street tune should be part of any tune even if it ends up on the dyno. Nothing wrong at all with going to Rick though. Just pointing out that a hub dyno is not the only way to be tuned with a load bearing dyno.

Out of curiosity, how much did he charge? Thinking of doing this myself.

Why? He recently street tuned my Z followed by dyno after. His name is Matt Gower of GP Tuning. PM or email him at gpxtuning@gmail.com for more info. Incredibly knowledgeable and very informative throughout the whole process. He responds very fast and he's in Hayward.

Mine is basically stock outside of CAI and axle backs. Driving the Z is better in every way now. There are a lot of others here that have also used Matt for their LS engine cars, including high hp cars. Maybe they'll chime in.

Matt recently tuned my car after Josh at JRG installed the new blower cam and it picked up 70+ HP. He also modified the tune on my A6 tranny and it shifts much more to how I like it now.

Another tuner in this area is Starkweather’s Performance & Tuning. Josh Starkweather who worked at ADM Performance out of Lewisville, TX has opened up his own shop here on the West Coast specializing in GM Performance. You might also take a look at him:

Well since we are talking tuning, I want to do a dyno tune since I'm adding LT headers but I am well aware of having to remove then for the smog inspection every two years. No problem there. Quick question though, will I have any issues if I run the custom tune using the OEM manifolds while I go get smog check?
I'm assuming I will still pass smog since you guys are passing with the tune. Just checking my options, I really don't want to do a handheld tune.

My son AJ at Performance in frame tuning in Napa is very good. Uses efi live and hp tuners. He's not only a good tuner but also a great mechanic who can diagnoss mechanical or electrical issues that can affect a tune. He has a mustang load bearing dyno and will fine tune drivability with street tuning.
