Hot August Nights – Reno
We’re only exactly 4 weeks away from Reno’s Hot August Nights, who’s all planning on heading up that way. Hot August Nights is the largest classic car and nostalgia event in the United States with venues spread across the Reno, Sparks and Lake Tahoe areas. If you never been to this event you should experience as this is one of the largest car enthusiast gatherings in the nation. This is the last year that Barrett Jackson will be having their auction at this event. I will be there working in the Reno/Tahoe Convention Center in the Chevrolet Performance corporate display on and off during that week. Stop by and see us up there as you’ll have a great time at this event.

I'm planning on going again this year. Do you know if the Spring Mountain driving school Corvettes will be out there giving rides on the temp track course they set up each year? I would like to see the C7Z in action.

I will be there. Hopefully the weather will be less than triple digits.

Sorry to say there’s no Chevrolet’s Ride & Drive this year at this venue. Chevrolet decided it was too costly to set up the track and to have Spring Mountain Driving School out there as it hasn’t paid off in the past. They will have the Chevrolet Performance display in the Convention Center.

I was so looking forward to some kind of Demo Driving :-(

Well for sure Chevrolet won’t be having their Ride & Drives. Ford had their rides & drives for years up there but I don’t know if they will have them this year or not. I have no ties Ford whatsoever. My ties are with Chevrolet.
This is the last year for Barrett Jackson to hold their auctions at this event. They had a three year contract for this event and this is the last year as they did not renew their contract for next year. This event was just way too big for Hot August Nights and the Barrett Jackson auction on the same stage. The auctions didn’t pull the audience or dollars as if they would have if they done their auctions on a solo event as them being the main headliner. Too many distractions that pulled buyers away as there’s too much going on throughout the city during Hot Aught Nights Week. This year their doing the auctions during the day so it won’t conflict with the cruise night schedules. It would have been nice if they renewed their contract and did the auction before or after the week of Hot August Nights as that might have worked out instead of competing with Hot August Nights on the same week.

We are slotted to go with the 63..... It will be our first time. We have a hotel, but haven't actually registered with HAN.
Suggestions, or group caravan would be great....

If you already have rooms locked up you made a smart move. By now rooms all over the city are sold out. I booked my room back in March at the GSR and they said they were already more than half full. If you never been here during HAN brace yourself and choose your events you want to participate in wisely. You need to realize your not going to be able to do everything that's going on. This is the ultimate as it gets for the car guys.

I would say even to the point of not taking your '63 if you can't sign up.
You can go and still have a great time, but if you're not registered I would strongly advise to leave the classis car at home.

Just got word today that the Chevrolet Performance display was moved to the Silver Legacy Resort as that would give us a lot more room for a larger display. So we'll be at the Silver Legacy Resort.

Yeah, but $200 is a bit steep for a single day just to be able to park the classic....
Frankly, there isn't much event wise that grabs me... Not drag racing, don't want to be tied up at a show and shine all day...Not foodies, and not shoppers.....
Suggestions on the highlights Saturday and Sunday? Otherwise we will just be spectators enjoying the cars...
We may just bring the Z instead. Hit the swap meet and wander around. Do they run shuttles or will we be walking everywhere?

We used to go for several years. Honestly, the best part of the entire trip is cruising down Reno, and/or Sparks just as the sun is going down. But again, you must be registered to do those things.
Also, the swap meet and car corral near the College on the North side of 80 is always good. We drove over there and paid $5.00 to park.
The car auction is held across from the Atlantis Casino. You can actually walk across an elevated enclosed walkway over to convention center from inside the Casino. That's always interesting to go and see.
Obviously, the cars are everywhere and it's cool to view all of them in several different locations. Grand Sierra Resort, Atlantis Casino, downtown Reno, and Sparks all have cars and music events.
Summit Racing Equipment is there, and we always seem to make it over there. Sheels and Cabela's end up in our itinerary at some point of the week-end.
Maybe I just tired of worrying about our car, but we actually go now and just take our regular car.
Oh yea, it's probably best to expect to drive your car to the various places.
Have fun! Pat

Looking forward to the new location and another free Corvette / Chevy cap and pretend I'm interested in a new non Corvette car. I find that going there on Wednesday or Thursday is great and your done with both the new car demo test drive and hell ride 30 minutes.

May bring the coupe. I've been wanting to go back to hot august nights for years. I vaguely remember how packed everything is though and dont like the idea of parking around so many people constantly coming and going. Dont remember - is there usually somewhere relatively far away you can park in less crowded places and walk to each event? This is one of those times I wish I had done PPF before anything else to the car.

Gone the past two years and never stayed pass Friday due to family schedule vacations. Last year the track condition was very poor and it wasn't that great.

Sorry we won't be displaying with a track nor a ride & drive this year. There's no Corvette rides this year.
